I'm a huge fan, but now that they are porting every game over to the Switch, I have to say no. They shut off the damn Miiverse, so much of the social aspect of the games is gone. I wasn't really into it, but it was a cool app when it applied to games like Super Mario Maker, LoZ Windwaker HD, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. I suppose if you're into collecting or soft modding systems, then it is worth it. Right now, the Switch is the better looking sibling. I hate saying it, because the Wii U is a great little system that begs you to play with it.

I would say yes, for the right buyer. They're available inexpensively, hard copy games aren't too expensive, and they're super easy to soft mod if you're interested. Not for everyone, but I like mine.

If you can, and are a fan, I'd second just getting it despite its state of relevance.
You might be having on your hands the Nintendo version of the Dreamcast or Saturn come two decades or so.
It is the Switch precursor afterall.

Absolutely, the library is tight. About 40 or so really good games that are already classics.

To Wee-Yoo or not to Wee-Yoo: that is the question I had been asking myself for the past three months.
I think of it as an upgraded Wii with an expanded library, like a Genesis with a 32X or Mega CD fused to it. It's more expensive than a Wii but far cheaper than a Switch.
Yet, all the games seem to be the same price. I'd check eBay for people selling their consoles with games and see how much they're charging. And check the thread I made in October in the Nintendo section regarding WiiU games.

I answered differently in centipede's thread, but seeing the question asked the way Teddy asks it, I gotta say yes. This whole forum is basically about old systems. "Worth it in 2018?" Yeah, if you got the money, why not? Also dschult3 said it upscales Wii games to HD in an older thread and that sounds pretty awesome.

I guess the way the question is asked made me vote no. If you're a collector, or if you want to play Wii games, this is the way to go. I love my Wii U. However, Wii U exclusives seem to be fading though, so if you're looking for ways to play Nintendo games, I'd bet that this won't be the best way due to the Switch.

And check the thread I made in October in the Nintendo section regarding WiiU games. I mean, I'm seeing complete models sell on ebay for around 189.99 brand new. That's really not bad compared to what it used to be. I'm also okay with the reduced portability. I have no interest in playing Wii games at all anymore so the upscaling is not important to me. I would like to go on the eshop and snag a couple of the rebirth titles if they're still available. I also would be interested in the Zelda remakes, Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart, Pikmin, Nintendo Land, Kirby, and maybe even Breath of the Wild (as suggested by Centipede).

MajoraT, you really should do a test drive. When I played on the WiiU, I, as a regular gamer, felt lost inside a huge tablet controller. That's the feeling I got, and after a bunch of minutes it didn't go away. I voted "No", but it depends on how you value that specific WiiU experience.

A related video that YouTube recommended to me: Maybe centipede can help translate his dialect?
