X-Play did a double review on both.
They specifically talk about the GameCube version of Red Hot Rumble, but other than adding a single player Trial Mode with lots of training and minigame type challenges and more playable characters to the PSP version, like Dante and Trish from Devil May Cry, it's exactly the same game it was on GameCube, with up to 4 player multiplayer using only a single copy of the game via game sharing over wifi instead of split screen.

These series always looked like something that should have been on the Genesis, so it makes sense they have this big stylistic appeal.
Capcom simply couldn't do wrong back them, so I'm pretty sure these handheld versions are a lot of fun just by looking at the gameplay here.

*Aggressive sigh*, WHY DID DOUBLE TROUBLE HAVE TO CASH IN ON THE SHITTY TOUCHSCREEN CRAZE SO DESPERATELY AND REPREHENSIBLY??? Compared to Red Hot Rumble, Double Trouble seems like an extremely faithful Viewtiful Joe title (in terms of gameplay), but the forced touch screen controls alone is an instant deal breaker for me. It's especially sad considering that Double Trouble wasn't just some port; it was an original game! (to my knowledge) I don't know who to blame for Double Trouble's failure: Nintendo or Capcom. I'm just going to assume it was Capcom who suggested to force touch screen controls on gamers, but regardless, fuck Nintendo for making that shit a reality. Red Hot Rumble certainly doesn't look bad, but as a huge fan of the first game I've never had any desire to play it as it essentially looks like a watered down party game spin-off. But hey, I could be wrong. RIP Viewtiful Joe franchise. We'll never get Viewtiful Joe 3 because Capcom butchered Double Trouble, which also simultaneously explains why we never got a good, faithful handheld VJ entry, either. Such a shame to see a good franchise with so much potential die so soon and then immediately fall into the darkest depths of copyright oblivion, AKA the worst possible outcome for any game franchise.
