I don't really care for Perfect Dark (it looks fun, but it's on the N64...), but Mark and Dave's review is hilarious. They really butcher the game in this review.

The N64 Perfect Dark is one of the best shooters I ever played next to GoldenEye. I'm sure it doesn't hold for some people, but it definitely holds for me. My brother has a 360 and I tried the new Perfect Dark demo, I was amazed how bad that game felt for me, I couldn't believe it was the same Rare we used to love, they really lost their touch with the series.
Perfect Dark was the first time Rare was actually competing with themselves. They were always competing with someone else, whether was TMNT, Mortal Kombat, or even Sonic The Hedgehog, all made by different devs, but after they lost the James Bond license, they had to come up with their own IP. This was a worth it spiritual successor, although I still place GoldenEye above it.

I have always hated this review. This game is outstanding, and I think that Mark fell victim to the console war mentality of the era. Mark really isn't known for this style of review, and that is the reason why I would love for him to review this game all over again.

I don't care for Perfect Dark at all, nor do I care for Goldeneye 64, but I can't understand why a self-proclaimed Goldeneye 64 fanatic like Mark would hate a shooter that plays exactly the same as Goldeneye, and made by the exact same developer too.
What a terrible and hypocritical review. It wasn't even funny, either.

The funniest thing about this review is that Mark has said (I think it's in the DVD commentary) that Nintendo was apparently interested in supporting their show, but then backed off after they did this video. Well, that's what you get for being honest in your reviews!
Perfect Dark was a disappointment to me, but not a surprising one, as I don't like Goldeneye either. These games have nothing on the PC shooters from that time.

I could name a hundred other CGR reviews off the top of my head that are 10x funnier than that review. Like Kasumi Ninja, for example. That review worked because the game was actually (as in, objectively) bad, not just subjectively bad. On a separate note, I'd love to see Mark review more Jaguar games. |
