I count the Arkham games as beat 'em ups. Streets Of Rage 2 still wins. Ok, but there's a big difference in gameplay between side-scrolling beat-em-ups and the modern 3D variety. Kind of an unfair comparison.

Kind of an unfair comparison. I feel like the Batman games are more like a hack'n slash game (without the hack and slash, just punches and kicks) than a beat-em-up.

Take Deadpool (the game) for example. You wouldn't call that a beat-em-up would you? It's a hack'n slash. It's just luke Batman without the killing.

Hack & slash is like Dungeons & Dragons, God Of War, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry. It's nothing like Mad Max or Final Fight.
I think the confusion comes that both genres, hack & slash, and beat 'em ups, are brawlers, from Double Dragon to Warriors Orochi. They're just different kinds of roads.

I wouldn't know. I've never played Deadpool. It's an alright/good game depending on your interest in Deadpool.

Back to Turtles in Time, a question: does it allow more than 2 players in any of its versions? I ask this because other Konami beat'em ups did (though I can only remember X-Men right now, which allowed 6 people simultaneously).

The arcade version had up to four players (the four turtles) but the SNES version "only" had two.

It was taken down from XBL and PSN because their licence expired. Same deal with the Guitar Hero stores and the Rock Band transfer licence. It's bullshit.

MeleeMonk - I think you would love Guardian Heroes! The characters have as many attacks as you would find in a good fighting game, and the inputs to do them are very Street Fighter inspired. It's definitely one of the pinnacles of the genre. I've heard great things about it and I've always wanted to play it, but it's just too expensive for my measly budget. From what I've heard it's also available on Xbox Live, so I would definitely prefer that version, but I'm too lazy to go out and buy an Xbox Live card, and I hate the idea of playing it with the terrible Xbox D-pad. Do you know if it's available for Saturn emulators?

I have both the original (bought in the 90s when it was cheap!) and the XBLA version; the XBLA one is pretty much the same with added widescreen, but I haven't yet played it properly - it may also have less slowdowns in the most hectic moments.

@cervtanes Ahh, nice! I'm sure it's a great game but honestly I'm in no hurry to play it.
Also, pardon my cluelessness, but what does "SSF" stand for? Is that the name of a Saturn emulator?
