Love the reviews of bad hardware and games.
And yes, it does look like a toilet.

I enjoyed this review so much that it has actually gone on to become one of my all time favorite CGR reviews. I had always wanted to hear Mark talk about the Jaguar ever since I saw his review of Kasumi Ninja, and I was delightfully surprised to hear he actually had a few nice things to say about it. On top of that, the review is funny, and left me wanting to hear more of his opinions regarding its games. I hope he reviews some of them in the future.

Other than adding that keyboard to the pad, the Jaguar had potential. The real issue wasn't the hardware. It just didn't have enough compelling exclusives to compete with Sonic The Hedgehog, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV, Mega Man X, Gunstar Heroes, etc.. Like seriously, how can anyone compete with that?
The Neo Geo despite the exceedingly expensive price tag survived all the way into almost the end of the PS2 era because of its games. They were so good that they still sell fine in newer consoles, things like Fatal Fury, King Of Fighters, World Heroes, Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, etc., kept it afloat.
The Jaguar on the other hand didn't have a proper selling point. Some of the best stuff on the Jaguar was already on PC, so people could totally do fine without it.

Yeah, the exclusives seem pretty terrible (design-wise, anyway). I mean, the levels in AvP look like one of those pseudo 3D maze screensavers you'd see on PCs from the early-to-mid 90s. You know, the same kind of "hedge maze" design used in Wolfenstein 3D that very quickly became obsolete the moment DOOM came out, years before AvP on Jaguar hit the scene. The software was certainly underwhelming, though I'm sure there are at least a few gems in the Jag's library.
