This month I was playing again through Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight (PC, PS4, XONE) and as it is such a great (but sadly obscure) game, I had the idea of making this thread so we could share our recommendations for more obscure games that we like.
Do you know how a lot of people complain that indie developers always go for 8-bit graphics and only very few of them ever tries a 16 or 32-bit style of pixel-art? Momodora: Reverie fills this gap (it's somewhere between 16 and 32). It's a 2d game inspired by the IGA Castlevanias (open world, gothic aesthetics) with a combat that is reminiscent of Dark Souls (dodge rolls with invincible frames, methodic approach to fighting). I know this doesn't sound good, as "2d indie Dark Souls Metroidvania" is a very unoriginal combination of words, but thrust me on this one: it works wonders and this is one of my favourite recent 2d games. Great story, atmosphere, pixel art/animation and gameplay.
It also has a female boss with a giant chest.
Edit: I wrote "obscure", but I mean games that you don't see much talk about and you wish more people had played it, so the game don't need to be really obscure - just not very known.

I don't know if this is obscure enough for your thread Cervantes, or if it's even obscure at all, but a game I like that I don't hear anyone talk about is Penguin Wars. It was an arcade game in the 1980s and was ported to the NES and some computers. I have it on the Game Boy. The name is kinda weird, the cover art looks a little childish, but the gameplay is pretty fun. The best way to describe it is that it's a vertical dodge ball game, but with animals. I heard they're remaking it for the Switch and other modern consoles. I'm liking forward to it.

I know the game isn't that obscure but I'd like to recommend Unreal Gold. Some other lesser known games I think you guys might like
-Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol.2 The Fatal Fury series isn't exactly obscure, but the games in the series not called "Mark of the Wolves" might as well be nowadays. The "real bout" games are among the most entertaining and high-octane of the traditional 2d fighters, and they're not that hard to get into to boot. These 3 games come in a pack that was released for the PS2, which was then re-released for the PS4 recently.
-Sonic Robo Blast 2 Yeah sonic is pretty much a household name, but I'd imagine you guys didn't know about the 3D fangame made on the doom engine of all things. It doesn't play quite like the 2d sonic games it's based off of, but it still feels and looks enough like a sonic game. The levels are really well designed and feature plenty of alternate paths and fun little gimmicks that would compliment a sonic game well. The only real problems are the lack of slopes in the levels and the weird scaling effect when looking up and down (both products of the doom engine). This one's totally free and to top it off there's more quality level packs released by other modders.
-Wizardry 8 Wizardry 8 is one of the more approachable games in the series. It's the first in the series with full 3D graphics, and it's also got a turn-based combat system that lets you move around the level while fighting. This game can be pretty intimidating in the first few hours, especially if you happen to make a bad party and have to start over, but I'd recommend it to anyone who likes turn-based RPGs as it has some of the best class/party building and combat I've seen in an RPG. Wizardry 8 can be found on modern online retailers like Steam or GOG and I had no problem getting it to work on Windows 8.1.

I don't know if it is obscure, but if you are asking for a decent shmup / fighting game I would recommend Touhou Genso Rondo Bullet Ballet. It is fun and the trophies are challenging enough to keep you occupied for a while.

I remember loving this game: This. Mischief Makers is amazing. It's a shame there was never a sequel, because the core gameplay was so unique and I would've loved to see it built upon. And why the hell was Marina Lightyears never in Smash Bros???

Aside from the Fat Princess and Tokyo Jungle I find it hard to find a good game to recommend among Sony's first party library other than this one:

An obligatory mention of ObsCure and ObsCure II The Aftermath come to mind, beside the fitting name for this thread they are survival horror games with optional co-op gameplay, the original was for PS2, Xbox and PC and the sequel was for PS2, PSP, PC and Wii (I haven't played the Wii port so I don't know how if it's got any Wii related problems with motion controls or any other issues), at the time they got a bit sidelined by other bigger brands like the Silent Hill and Resident Evil games but they're both very good games in the genre, and apart from the wildcard Wii version I highly recommend the others, they're all great.
