What the actual fuck dude. There are reviews out there which are only a single word. Of course this is a fucking review. What do you expect? A 3 volume novel maybe? I review every single fucking movie I watch. Not every review can be several paragraphs as there is not always something to say about it. This is what I had to say about Chirin. For fucks sake, it's only a 45 minute film, one can barely even call it one as it's so short. A review doesn't have a definition of length. It can be either as short or as long as the writer wishes. Be glad some people are watching your suggestion dude, because I bet most people here won't. Roger Ebert won a Pulitzer for a movie review. I'll bet my moderatorship that it wasn't because of his review of Chirin, because nobody can write more than a (interesting) paragraph about that movie. |

Oh Dan, you always make me giggle with those comments next to the rating numbers.
*SPOILERS*
I really don't think the art direction is bad for anime standards just because it resembles an american artstyle. I think Chirin's Bell takes good advantage of scenes with subdued colors, which is something I can appreciate in a kids flick. I also like what they did to adult Chirin's design to make him look like a predator. He looks menacing but they didn't go overboard with trying to make him look tough and he fits well within the movie's artstyle.
While I like Chirin's Bell, I think it has a few problems. One of them being how the movie relies on dialogue too much to get the point across. There's some scenes like when the sheep hide in fear from Chirin where the movie finally decides to let the visuals do the talking, and it's done so well it's a shame the movie didn't do it more often. It also has this narrator who will beat the moral into your head or pointlessly explain what's going on in a scene multiple times throughout the movie. I get that it's a kids flick, but I thought the movie got the point across loud and clear with the character dialogue alone.
I went into this one thinking it was going to be darker than it actually was. It gets serious, but as far as japanese kids media goes I've seen darker. That's not a bad thing though, and in comparison some other serious kids movies, the darker tone in Chirin's Bell is done in good taste imo. I don't feel as comfortable rating movies as I do with rating games, but I can at least say I liked Chirin's Bell.
*Edit: Wait is the movie called Ringing Bell or Chirin's Bell? I was going with the title on the video Balder posted so my bad if I got it wrong.

Worst review I've ever read, and not because you didn't give it a high score. A three sentence opinion is not a review. Hell, my post isn't even really a review, I should've just called it "a summery" or something more basic like that. What the actual fuck dude.
