Yeah I know it's for a Nintendo handheld but it would be wrong to share this content in any other forum sub-heading so here you go:
Okay!
So a good while ago in the "classics" forums, I expressed discontent at having purchased a Sonic collection where half the money went to Sonic Generations, the most esteemed on the palate, and my CPU couldn't run it AT ALL. Co-forum member Cervantes said I was missing out and should check it out given the opportunity due to the PC mod community and how it's the best Sonic title in years. Nonetheless, the opportunity had never arose and I sort of went in blind-folded to the 3DS version since I saw a sealed copy of the game for a good deal (anything under $20 for 3DS sealed is worth investigation to me).
Suffice to say, I was not only impressed, I found that this iteration proved one of my most esteemed purchases for the console and that time whizzed by while playing as fast as a blue hedgehog in a green hill zone!
Now not all is beautiful here particularly in the extra content department but nonetheless, I've heard nothing but praise for Dimps' work with the portable Sonic titles and it really showed in this version; nor should I forget to mention this game has an entire roster of levels unique to it not found in the home console or PC edition so is worth investigation for that alone.
As far as a rating goes, for journalistic purposes, I rank it a 4/5: some of the best levels I've seen firsthand from a Sonic title that sustain the spirit of their origins while proving highly addicting and enjoyable to return to for bettering purposes and a test of skill in timing, observation and memorization.
The rating is only brought down due to the fact that it's nigh-impossible to unlock the bonus content in the game without street-passing other 3DS owners (20 hours in and only 10/100 mission unlocked? WTH!?) but I'm dropping this one a five star on the eshop with the hopes that more young'ns out there SOS (support our SEGA!).
So there it is, I hope you enjoy my sentiments and please feel free to share your own on any iterations of the game.
