I wanted to discuss the new Halloween movie for our weekly discussion, but Spirit Bomb had a different movie suggestion so I decided to use his for the FDotW instead. So no poll on this one, but I'm wondering if any of you have seen the new Michael Meyers flick? Like it? Not interested? I'm seeing it on Halloween Eve and I'm stoked. No spoilers, please!

Never a real fan:
Awesome clip here.
Love those guys....
I'm not really interested either. The dead horse needs to be buried and new material is needed.

So I saw it as planned. It was fun. The movie acts as a sequel to the first movie, and only the first. There are easter egg references to the previous sequels, but this one ignores all the others from a timeline perspective. As a comic book fan, where alternate universes are common, and as an OG Halloween 1978 fanboy, I wasn't bothered by that at all. The story sorta feels like fan fiction, but Jamie Lee Curtis plays her part so well that I wouldn't have changed it. JLC is a total badass in this one. Especially towards the end of the movie when she becomes the hunter and Michael Meyers becomes the prey in a very switched-roles scene copied straight from the original. That was my favorite part of the movie. Michael Meyers is no slouch either. They really turned him into a killing machine. He is perhaps less suspenseful than in the original, though. There's less sneaking around and moments of silence here to get nervous about. Meyers just shows up and stabs as many teenagers as he can, like he's got a kill count timer that's running out. That's to the film's detriment, imo. Overall, I did enjoy it and would recommend it to Halloween fans, but probably not to regular viewers. They introduced some new characters, who were fine, but I think the large cast spread the action too far apart. Halloween works best when there's a lot of suspense and tension. To give it a cobretti review: the kill count was high, way higher than the first movie. Michael Meyers even exploded a man's skull with his boot, so that's awesome. But there's only one scene with exposed breasts and it was a flashback to the original exposed breasts we saw in 1978. 5/5

Laurie Strode does come back as badass as you can imagine, though. The fact that she's old makes it even more badass to me. Edit: Performance wise, I'd call it even. Curtis really is top notch. Character wise, I think I'd still call Sarah Connor my favorite.

They were great breasts but its a shame they chose not to expose any new breasts. Stupid feminists. All this talk about breasts and Halloween reminds me of Jamie Lee Curtis' nude scene in Trading Places. She had nice, ample breasts and a fantastic body.

I thought this movie was a pretty awesome sequel to a 40 year old movie.

Got down to watch this movie back to back with the original. It really gave me a good way to compare it to the original, and there is a lot of homage, which I am always a sucker for. Here's my thoughts on the film:
"After countless sequels of varying degrees of bad comes finally a great sequel to the original Halloween. As any respectable 40 years apart sequel, it rejects any of the other sequels to the original and basically calls them trash to make way for a new canon. With John Carpenter himself backing this project, it takes the series back to its roots for better and worse (but mostly better). All of the ridiculous subplots from the sequels are abandoned and this feels very much grounded. Myers is an unstoppable killing machine, and he is as mean as he has ever been. There are lots of great kills scattered throughout the movie. For what this movie does differently from its predecessors, it does remarkably well. Having the Strode family hunt down Myers, effectively switching the roles is great. It gives blows some fresh air on this 40 year old franchise. However, since it does bring the film back to its roots, it also repeats a lot of the things we have seen a million times before. In a way it was inevitable; people want to watch the same old Halloween tropes, and I want that as well, but in some instances I do think it becomes kind of generic. Myers kills the mechanic to get his jumpsuit, he escapes prison, he stalks the neighborhood, acquires his knife, kills some babysitters etc. I am unsure how I feel about the fact that this movie sets up another trilogy, this being the first installment. Of course Myers cannot be dead in this movie then, and neither the next one. Overall I think this is a highly enjoyable Halloween movie that fans of the series have been waiting for, but at this point it is hard to make something perfect." 4/5

It was a decent successor to the original 1978 one. I'm looking forward for the next two movies scheduled to continue this.

I'm actually a huge fan of the Halloween and Friday the 13th series and even Loved the first Rob Zombie remake. So i was really looking forward to this one and to be honest it was a bit of a letdown. The pacing was off and Michael just didn't feel like Michael at all. He's a lot more clumsy and too human in this one. The great thing about Mickeal Myers in the original series was that he was beyond human and always a step ahead.

He was pretty strong on this one though. That strength still feels supernatural.

The great thing about Mickeal Myers in the original series was that he was beyond human and always a step ahead. I thought he was quite formidable in this movie, but the letdown was that we have already seen all his kills before. The coolest kill was the curb stomp, and he already did that in one of the Rob Zombie reboot movies.

He was pretty strong on this one though. That strength still feels supernatural. But it's not so much the strengh, Leatherface was super strong. But the over cunning, here now gone the next and how on earth did he do that or survive that feel that Michael had in the original series wasn't present in this movie. I mean this guy was falling for tricks and things the original Michael wouldn't of. he just seems too clumsy. But i guess that's what they were going for in this re-imagining. They wanted to make it more realistic so they made Michael resemble that creepy perverted old man next door who couldn't talk but then it was found out that he was schitso and killed a bunch of people.
