Macho men like Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan are all fine and good, but to me the sign of a truly manly man is a man who fully embraces nature, a man who does not flinch when he breaks a finger wrestling a croc, or gets bit on the neck by a snake, and wasn't phased the least by the sight of a large centipede crawling across his lap. Steve Irwin was one of the few modern men who fit the bill.  What's most amazing about Irwin is that he took no drugs to achieve his masculinity. He was addicted not to roids or bench pressing, but to nature itself, and he got a natural high out of handling wildlife for our entertainment (and education!). He was such a god-damn mother-fucking man that he pulled the stingray bard that killed him out of his own heart right before he died. Damn, that's manly. He still remains a great inspiration to anyone, and I miss him. He lived the life I always wanted to live, and for that I still envy him to this day. RIP Steve you god-damned legend. I miss you man. |

Steve Irwin was my hero as a kid. I still think he's one of the coolest guys I've ever seen because even though he did crazy shit like suplex deadly rainforest predators, his focus was always about education and getting people interested in wildlife. If I ever managed to wrestle a gator down even once I would probably brag about it for the rest of my life and sell a book on it, but for Irwin it was just a means to an end.

Just like most Americans. My image was different between the two when I was a kid. Americans:  Australians:  Australians always looked more pansy by comparison, but they were also ballsy in their own way fighting sharks, crocodiles, and whatnot. Americans were more roguelike, and a different kind of rebels, anti-establishment, and always trying to change the world. |
