A while back I heard on the world news that Norway has officially ceased it oil production as part of its commitment to slowing global warming. AWESOME! LET'S HERE IT FOR NORWAY! HIP-HIP HOORAY!Meanwhile, Balder is trashing up the atmosphere with carbon dioxide and spending his money on new laptops instead of buying an electric car. He is a disgrace to his country and this beautiful planet. Do you know why I don't have an EV? Because I can't fucking afford to buy one. No student in Norway can afford one unless their parents buys one for them. The EV policies in Norway are fucked up. EV cars don't have any taxes on them and rich people can buy Tesla's and EV Jaguars cheaply, but no ordinary family can afford them and that discounted price because they still cost 60, 80K USD. The people who buy these vehicles are typically people working in the oil industry. So just think about that for a moment. The people you hate are living off the goods that green political parties are bringing, while the common man pays for those goods. You're a zealot Maestro, a really really bad one.

Yep, I hadn't heard anything about and I tried to find any article saying something like that, and I couldn't even find a fake article about it. There's nothing recent about Norway slowing down on oil production.

The caronavirus pandemic is predicted to send first world countries into recessions, which means carbon emissions will fall as a result of less airline travel, petroleum usage, and so on!! AWESOME!!!!!
Nothing like a good disease outbreak to keep mankind down!

AWESOME!!!!! Nothing like a good disease outbreak to keep mankind down! Fuck off with that insensitive bullshit. People are literally dying and losing their savings, and all you can think off is that we drive snd fly less now? Things like lowering carbon emissions fixes itself when the world progresses, this virus will only set us back. A recession is incoming and it's going to suck.

Actually it's the other way around; people find a cure for diseases usually no more than 2 years after the outbreak begins, but there is still no known solution for climate change. You keep blabbering about how future technology will end global warming despite offering no evidence yourself, while also doing fuck-all to reduce your own carbon emissions. As someone who's highly interested in environmental science I really don't appreciate your patronizing efforts to downplay the issues I frequently raise about man made climate change, Balder. Losing a few thousand people to a virus is one thing but losing key pollinators like insects is enough to cause an ecological collapse, which would eradicate our food sources and end life on Earth. Mankind survived the bubonic plague, small pox, and so on, but the majority of life forms don't survive mass extinctions, and our planet has just begun to experience the largest mass extinction it has ever had. THAT is cause for alarm, not the corona virus.

THAT is cause for alarm, not the corona virus. Just look around meleemaestro, what countries give a fuck about the environment? Is it the developing countries or the poor ones? Fuck no. Is it the developed and educated ones? Yes. You're privileged enough to live in a rich and educated enough country to even start caring about this stuff. If you lived in Africa or India, China or some other country like those, you wouldn't give it a second thought if you drove a gas powered vehicle or an electric one. So my point is, if these countries get themselves up to speed, things like these would solve themselves for the most part. Gas powered vehicles are going away, it's a fact. It might take another 10-15 years before that happens, but at this point it's inevitable. Battery and hydrogen powered vehicles are right around the corner to replace them all. The more developed we become, the cleaner our energy sources become as well. In Norway we don't have a single fossil fuel power plant, they are all powered by renewable power sources. Go to China, a less developed country, take a look at what they use. The problem isn't that people in Norway need to go to 0 carbon emission, the rest of the world needs to catch up. Do you know how many people live in Norway? Our population is 5.3 million people. If we all reduced our carbon emissions to 0, we wouldn't even make a dent. New York city has several million more people than our entire country. We're minuscule in the grand scheme of things.

THAT is cause for alarm, not the corona virus. The point is people's lives are at stake and the recession is going to make it harder to find and maintain work! Nah, that's just what your first world society wants you to think. Speaking on behalf of the USA, we could easily create millions of jobs through reforestation duty. Just look at the Eastern United States; the majority of uninhabited land is being used for the meat industry, either corn fields or cow pastures. We're talking tens of thousands of square miles of land here. Turning that large an area of land back into proper native forest would create jobs for a large percentage of the lower class, and the resulting mature hardwood forests would create a large source of high-quality lumber for our future generations. That's what countries like India and Ireland have been doing recently. The problem is that Americans are self-indulgent, bigoted pigs who aren't willing to faze meat or dairy out of their diet, which is why reforestation projects have never gotten off the ground here. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same way in Australia, given the attitudes of some of your most notable figures like Scott Morrison and Tony Abbott towards social/political movements like veganism, forest preservation, and sustainable forestry.

The point is people's lives are at stake and the recession is going to make it harder to find and maintain work! Nah, that's just what your first world society wants you to think. No, your disregard for human life is unsettling. If it affects society, it affects YOU in some way. What if YOU catch the virus?

I'm not afraid of the corona virus at all. I might get seriously sick IF I actually catch it, but I highly doubt that I would die. And even if I do die, so what. That's how life is. There will always be viruses and bacteria threatening civilization. It's out of my control, and no one lives forever, anyway. I'm just doing my best right now to keep my hands clean to prevent infection. That's all we have to do! What does irk/concern me about the outbreak is the risk the virus poses to senior citizens, such as my grandmother. I would hate to see her catch it, because I don't think she would survive. I'm also seriously annoyed by the impact the disease is having on local businesses, causing every restaurant in my town to close off their dining rooms, making it impossible for me to comfortably access wifi spots right now (I'm typing in Mcdonalds parking lot at the moment). It's also affecting my ability to find work. I'm currently looking for a second part time job, and a conference center that I had applied at recently shut down due to concerns over the virus. This mass hysteria over the corona virus is interfering with my life even though it doesn't pose a risk to me personally, or any other life form on our planet, unlike climate change, which definitely does.

I think I'll use this thread for something worthwhile for once. My roommate started making trouble about the only parking spot we have. When we moved in together less than a year ago, I was under the impression that he wasn't going to use the parking spot since he bought himself a scooter and an electric bicycle while I already owned a car. The deal was that he got the bigger room, an office in the living room and generally more space in the apartment, while I got to use the parking spot for my car while he parked the scooter and bike besides it. We both paid equal rent, but last month he bought a car without finding a solution for parking. I've been away for the past month and I'm going to be away all summer so he got the parking all to himself, but when I return, I'm going to use the parking spot. He could park 5-10 minutes away with walking (this place has no parking spots in the streets unfortunately). That's no good for him apparently, and I even offered to share the parking spot if he paid more rent than me, which I think is very fair considering that he has the money for it since he works. That was a no go. He threatened to move out, and today he turned in the resignation. I was really stressed out to be moving out again since I've only lived there for 10 months or so, and looking for apartments and moving is such a hassle. I asked the landlord if I could continue to rent the place and that we could together try to find someone else to move in since I cannot afford to pay double. Then I got the most amazing response in return. I'll be able to rent the whole place for myself for half the rent! The landlord is incredibly kind. I would never have thought that it'd be a possibility for me to live by myself while studying, and now I got to do that for no additional cost. It'll be amazing to never have to wait for the bathroom, washer, dryer, kitchen, utensils etc. to be free. Never have to ask to have people over, need to wear headset to listen to something or having to be clean up others mess. This is a blessed day.

I think I'll use this thread for something worthwhile for once. I'm glad you've given up scolding me for my posts celebrating the outcomes of social/political/environmental issues in this thread, since that's all you've been doing before now. You're much less annoying this way. A welcome change indeed!
