I got a Japanese ps2 in the mail today and I can finally play my only import game on it. I plan on ordering more games for it that I want. It works fine on a us power outlet and things like controllers, memory cards, and cables are all region free. I saved my game on a us memory card and it saved right to it.

I'm ignorant about this generation of gaming, so was the Japanese PS2 all that different?

Its really not all that different from the american one. When I tried it with the av cables from the us there were a few lines coming on the screen and staying there. I put in the cables that came with the system and the lines were gone. Power supply is different because it uses a different voltage. Some people online have said you need a downscaler to get the ps2 to work on us power outlets but others said it works just fine without any sort of need to buy a downgrader or converter. I tried it and it works just fine no downgrader needed although I still took the opportunity to unplug the cords from the system when I was done with it just in case anything goes wrong. Menu's are in Japanese but if you know your way around a ps2 menu in English than you will be fine. It's not that difficult to navigate if you have prior knowledge of whats what.

Were there many games exclusive to Japan on the PS2?

Oh yeah there are a bunch of ps2 games that never got released over here. Mister mosquito 2,initial d,ikki tousen shining dragon, zero pilot, azumi, the sakura wars games, lots of games never got released over here. Plus Sega rally, nights into dreams, Sega ages collection, melty blood and arcana heart 2 just to name a bunch. The Japanese ps2 can also play import ps1 games.

lukefonfabre388 Can't believe they never released the ages collection games in the states, not even for the Saturn.

lukefonfabre388 Can't believe they never released the ages collection games in the states, not even for the Saturn. On the Saturn, I think the only AGES games released in the US were Space Harrier, After Burner 2 and Outrun (included in a single disc). One that they definitely should have released is the Phantasy Star Collection: the four games plus a bunch of bonus material (I have the japanese release).

The PS2 library is already humongous as it is, add to that the Japanese exclusives, and no other system will ever see the time of the day with how many options you'll have to play.
