So I recently beat Crysis on the hardest difficulty mode and wanted to share my thoughts on this amazing game.
What I liked:
+Excellent gameplay which fixes a lot of the annoyances Far Cry had, namely the painfully slow movement speed
+Graphics, production values and overall presentation are absolutely outstanding
+Extensive levels of interactivity with the physics engine, though I'm disappointed that you can't pick up/throw dead bodies like in, say, Deus Ex Invisible War
+Full body awareness, always a nice detail in FPS games
+Open ended level design which really adds to the game's replay value
+Far fewer indoor levels than in Far Cry
+Suit powers (except armor) are awesome. In particular, strength is one of the most entertaining powers in any video game. I love OHKOing bad guys and hurling oil drums at them and sending them spinning into the air. Makes me LMAO every time.
+AI, especially on the human enemies, is much improved from Far Cry
+Console commands (EVERY PC game should have console commands)
+Comes packaged with a level editor AKA modding tools
What I didn't like:
-Even the largest outdoor levels in Crysis still feel less open ended than the largest ones in Far Cry
-The Ceph simply aren't as cool or as fun to fight as the trigen in Far Cry. I miss the trigen.
-Less weapons than Far Cry, though not a huge complaint
-Vehicle damage was just a nuisance and made the driving feel worse than in Far Cry, which had easily the best driving controls of any FPS I've ever played.
-All the characters were forgettable stereotypes, though the voice work was excellent
-The campaign felt shorter than Far Cry's and the cliffhanger ending was a let down
-The fucking armor power was a complete pain in the ass and almost ruined the combat for me since it always auto-activated once cloak ran out, which pretty meant curtains if it happens in open areas with enemies. It just felt like a useless hindrance compared to all the other powers, and I SO wish the game let you disable the auto-switch feature whenever your cloak runs dry.
-Can't assign the individual suit powers to hot keys (at least I couldn't find a way to do that)
-I despise the pro-american, pro-military vibe of the campaign, and I found the use of North Koreans as the bad guys to be an insensitive choice.
Despite all these complaints the game was an absolute blast and I probably had even more fun with it than Far Cry. Even on medium settings the game looked very impressive (better than most AAA FPS games from the time) and it makes the first Far Cry look like last week's mashed potatoes in comparison. Maybe one day I'll have the pleasure of trying out the multiplayer portion of the game, since that's something I've always wanted to try.
Overall I give Crysis a 9.5/10.
Anyway, thank you Cervantes and winnersdontusedrugs for recommending this game to me! You guys sure know what I like.
