I sent this link to a friend, and they used the link to buy the tools and watched the link to make the fix over the weekend. His kid is playing their Switch again without fail. Sometimes, the internet is just plain awesome. Sometimes.

I did send mine, all four of them, they replaced them for new ones, all for free, they are fine now, it was totally worth it to send them.

Nintendo has officially said that they aren't going to fix this issue!! The NERVE of those cunts! If I was a Switch owner I would be shit storming all over the place because of this. I personally think game controllers are as important as the games that they...control (for lack of a better word). I remember when Nintendo controllers were arguably the best mainstream first-party controllers money could buy. I've never had a single issue with any of my Gamecube controllers, they all still work exactly like they should. The Gamecube joysticks were the best of their kind for arcade games because of their high build quality and especially because of their 8-way design. I refuse to play 2D fighters and high-end beat-em-ups like Streets of Rage 3 with anything other than the highest quality D-pads and joysticks. For this reason I find the joystick issue on the Switch especially appalling.
It seems like Nintendo's definition of "quality control" nowadays definitely ain't what it used to be.

They fixed mine, but they are not entirely good anymore, I have been having problems playing Mario Kart 8 lately because the drifting is back. Basically it makes you drift when you don't want to.
I probably will need to send mine again, it is a real shame Nintendo's seal of quality control is nowhere near what it used to be back in the day. At least the Switch itself hasn't given me any problems. It would be horrible if they try to pull a PS2 thing to get more sales too.

I've heard you can clean the old joysticks if you take them apart, and they will be as good as new if you are willing to do the work. The Switch Lite upgrade has been rather positive around here. So far (knock on wood), there have been 0 problems with my son's console.

That's good to hear, with the Lite is probably even more scary because you can't take out the Joy-Cons, so it is good that it has been working fine for you. Hopefully it will stay that way.
