As many of you know, I know longer have access to internet where I live, so these days I strictly play physical games when it comes to PC gaming. I remember Cervantes telling me a while back that DRM used for physical PC games can have a negative impact on game performance. This worries me, since the majority of physical PC games have some form of DRM, usually Safedisc or Securom. However, despite doing a bit of researching of these two DRM, I failed to find any information indicating that they can cause stuttering or FPS drops. Does anyone here have any proof or personally experienced DRM causing performance issues? I would really like to know.

I don't know if it does, but it wouldn't surprise me. However once you have a bunch of power going on a lot of things become unnoticeable.

Here's one example of a modern DRM (Denuvo) causing a hit on Devil May Cry 5's performance. On Digital Foundry, they found it could affect as much as 7% of the game's performance in their tests. These impacts tend to be very low, though, so with a capable machine they tend to be imperceptible. Of course, for old games, that goes on a case-by-case basis, but you shouldn't worry, really. Negatively impacting the performance while already in the game is a rare thing; the problem of most of those DRMs were issues of compatibility, annoyance on installation/starting the game and having to use the CD even with the game fully installed on your pc - also, the annoyance of those DRMs installing unwanted files on your pc and keeping them even after uninstalling the game. If your games are working, then you are good to go - especially if you looked at the games you play and found no problems with their DRMs.
