I was holding off on making this thread out of respect for Dan E. Kool, who seems to be a huge fan of Ren and Stimpy creator John K. But now that Dan has waved goodbye to this forum and insulted me on the way out, I feel comfortable discussing with the pub mates who many consider to be one of the most unlikable and reprehensible figures in the western animation scene. Before I share my opinion on John K., I would like to ask: what do you guys think of him? Is anyone here fond of his works? Do you respect him as an artist? Discuss.

A little research about this guy and it becomes very clear why he (John K.) is so heavily disliked in the entertainment Industry and beyond. I'll just sum up my key observations & opinions on him:
-Is a pedophile/child predator -Is narcissistic as hell -Treats his crew members like garbage, sometimes in a sadistic fashion (just look at the way he manipulated voice actor Billy West) -Fails to meet deadlines -Slanders any artist/animator more successful than him -Has a profoundly immature sense of humor and a reputation for ruining his only claim to fame, Ren and Stimpy, by making it into an atrocious adult spin-off, that unsurprisingly flopped harder than a fish out of water -Has an extremely perverted and misogynistic view on women
Basically he is the embodiment of everything wrong with the american animation industry. Yes I know he's canadian but considering he has worked extensively in america for much of his career and was apprenticed by other infamous american cartoonists like Bob Clampett, I think his works can be considered american productions.
It just baffles me how mediocre, egotistical artists like John K. can amass such a fan following despite having such little/poor work output and possessing horrible reputations. I just don't understand it. I mean, none of my favorite western artists like Doug Wildey, Alex Toth, Burne Hogarth, Warren Tufts and Winsor McKay did any of the deplorable crap that John K has. They all worked extremely hard throughout their career and had tremendous artistic output. I don't understand why these modern egotistic american hacks like John K., Butch Hartman, and Seth McFarlane deserve to have so much success handed to them.
But I have digressed. John K. is still exceptionally deplorable by american animator standards, and that's saying something. I think the industry would be better off without him.

Why don't we just call this Famous People I hate of the Week? Because this is all this series is. You must not lurk much within the animation community. Pretty much every other person hates John K. He's the most hated modern american animator by a large margin. Do yourself a favor and watch those videos. There are plenty of people who hate him way more than I do. Plus, he's not even famous anymore. Literally his only mainstream success was Ren and Stimpy, which was canceled over 20 years ago, and wasn't even finished by him (he was fired half-way through the series). The complaints against him are far more objective than those made about Butch Hartman and Seth Mcfarlane.

I'm not really familiar with this or his work, but that is besides the point I'm making. The thing is MeleeMonk is that it never matters what we discuss in these threads. These discussions are never motivated by the work these famous people have done. There's always an agenda you're pushing, and usually it's an agenda about why we should hate the person of topic. It's never about their work, just them as a person. What they've done professionally is of no matter, just their personal beliefs and opinions, and sometimes even their god damn looks.

Well in the Brad Bird thread, I don't remember mixing in some kind of personal agenda. I mostly focused on his works. Same was true for the Seth McFarlane thread. So you're wrong to say there's always an agenda I'm pushing. And the only times I remember scrutinizing someone's looks is when I mentioned that Mark Hamil & Gabe Newell both got really fat, so please don't make me out to be some sort of shallow, cold-hearted bully, because it's not true.

Okay, you've had some discussions where you focused on their work, and you know what? Those were the best discussions. Yhe looks thing is referring to that supermodel you discussed that one time. I don't remember her name.

What's wrong with discussing ALL aspects of someone's career? It would be a travesty to dismiss the nefarious side/crimes of these artists. And I clearly ask in my OP & poll what everyone thinks of their career AND them as human beings. It's totally fair. I take pride in creating these threads and I will not glance over details of their off-the-job lives. It simply wouldn't be fair to John K.'s victims to not mention what he did to them.

Discussing them as people is no problem, but when 90% of the focus is on them as people and not as professionals it becomes more of a witch hunt than anything else. I will still refer to that super model thread where you didn't even know how she really was, but you still judged the hell out of her.

I think you may be referring to Gisele Bündchen. I remember mentioning her in a Melee Maestro thread. She used to be heavy criticized for wearing für. She is Brazilian, and wife of the American football player quarterback Tom Brady.

Well it's not my fault that the majority of well known modern american animation directors have really crappy personalities.

Can someone please explain to me how this predatory pig never got caught???
Considering Nickelodeon's other scandals & allegations involving such content creators as Chris Savino, Dan Schneider and some others, I'm not surprised that many viewers have started boycotting Nickelodeon in recent years.

Congrats, John. You made it onto the thumbnail of a freaking Watch Mojo list. That's quite a distinction. I mean, when Watch Mojo starts gossiping about you, then you KNOW your scandal is mainstream.
