Okay, I'm curious, how about this? Main character has a pointed gun. He doesn't want to kill, but he doesn't want pull his punches either. So, he lowers his gun and shoot the bad guy in the leg. Could this work, how could this work and turn out in real life?

Reading over the Mary Sue thread, I came to analysing my own MC.
He's not a Mary Sue, but he doesn't train or earn his power. Against his will, he is transformed into something inhuman. And he also absorbs the knowledge and experiences from other people.
After his transformation, his personality changes, but I'm worried if he's too 1 dimensional. He's just bent on revenge, and loyalty to the army he's entered into (since it serves his purpose).
Is there anything I can add a little more depth?
It's feels more like an villain origin story...

If you want more angles to the main character's depth, you could always try to write a few chapters from other character's perspectives. I've seen that before, and when done well, I liked it. Video games seem to be doing this as well so the participant (the reader in this case) gets the broader story in general.

Okay, need more.
Act 1 ends on a cliffhangar.
Act 2 ends with one of the main bads self detonating and taking a city block with her.
Act 3 is meant to be the end, but I want to leave it open for a part 4. Since his misson is complete, main character is contemplating suicide. Do I leave his death ambiguous? Would it be better if I add some side characters talking about the future?
