First and before anything else, furries are what this guy explains in this video. I'm saying this because I often read the term in the internet but never knew exactly what it meant, so I don't expect everyone to come here knowing. So, I know that furries like to role-play (evidently) as anthropomorphic animals, which often involves use of visual representations of them and sometimes even costumes. In adition to that there's the sexual aspect of it, of course: furries may enjoy their business more if that costume is involved, or enjoy art of sexualized anthropomorphic animal characters (I assume there's no regular porn of that); that's where my question lies. When it comes to art, if you ask me about a respresentation of a sexy person, my head would usually direct me to something like this picture. I understand that if you ask that to a male hetero furry he would answer something like this (please understand I don't really know about a better example to use). What gets me wondering is that if you asked me specifically about a representation of a sexy anthropomorphic animal, my first thought would be something like this instead. I bet you know what my question is, uh? If you understand what furries are about, or if you are one, can you tell how the replacement of the human face affects the furries' view? Like, what is the feeling that the representation of a non-human face improves a design on an anthropomorphic character?

Ex Nazi Furry here (Long story) I think I can help you clear some parts of in your post and I may be able to answer most questions that you may have in the future. So, I know that furries like to role-play (evidently) as anthropomorphic animals, which often involves use of visual representations of them and sometimes even costumes. In adition to that there's the sexual aspect of it, of course: furries may enjoy their business more if that costume is involved, or enjoy art of sexualized anthropomorphic animal characters (I assume there's no regular porn of that). Oh my dear young padawan, so smart and yet so ignorant to the arts of yiffing. Yes, there's porn of people having sex in fursuits (Yes, that's what they are called). There's an entire site dedicated to furries filming themselves engaging in such activities, well that and animations but I've never heard of someone using that site for the animations This is a common misconception most people have of furries, not all furries are into anthros and some even find them gross. There are different styles of furry out there and every kind has its own denomination, I'll just try and list the four most common ones I can think of, because otherwise I'll spend the entire day here. First there are the ones that are closer to humans, more often than not only featuring ears and tails. In my days we used to call them nekos or catgirls or dogboys or [insert animals part here]+ boy/girl. Kids these days seem to call them kemonomimi and although they exist and they are considered furries they play a rather small part in the comunity. The next ones are anthros. I think this part of the comunity are what people for the most part associate with furry and they're by far the biggest part of the comunity. However something important is that anthros are more often than not used inside the comunity to reffer to anthropomorphic mammals aka canines, felines, horses and even elephants. These ones are the first that I don't think normal people are familiar with; scalies. Although they are similar to anthros in design scalies reffer to reptiles in general, dragons dinosaurs and snakes among other things are on this list. And last but not least we have ferals. These are other ones I don't think most people know about and I've always wondered why, considering they make around a fourth of the comunity at least. As you have probably guessed they consist of normal animals beautified, more often than not in cartoonish ways and almost always despicted as "cute" Well in my personal experience all the furries I met have a degree of misanthropism, be it big or small. So I think that's a factor in it? Dissasociate oneself with humanity? I mean most of the furries I knew (Including myself) took the role playing thing very seriously as in "My name is not David and I'm not from California, my name is Ty and I'm a gray fox born in the wild" seriously. Being a furry is almost like living a second life really.

Guilion - This is the most informative post I've ever read about the theme. It's still hard to get the appeal, but at least now I understand it better.

Hmmm, question: where do centaurs, faun and satyrs fit in furrydom? And would it be kind of weird to draw female satyrs as sort of cute or sexy, like with the " Cute Monster Girl" trope?

I didn't actually expect a reply that good when I asked. Glad that I did! Guilion , you brought everyone who comes around a bunch of new information just now. I had no idea scalies exist, in fact I was going to mess up really hard in my example up there because I was going to link a picture of a shark-girl; but the amount of people in this fandom is sure to grow thanks to XCOM 2. So, I think that the reason I'm not a furry myself is because I just never asked around the internet to get together with others, since I really like the kind of art Dorian Cleavenger and others make, painting those gorgeous women with different "assets" on them; as you said people who like this kind of thing don't make for a big part in the fandom anyway. Well, I'll just wait for someone to come up with archnoladies, then. Who doesn't love extra legs? No, don't mention Evil Within. That feral bit you commented sounded a little weird, which is why I guess it seemed like some secret. Now, if I understood right, you think that furries who prefer anthro designs have such a level of misanthropy that makes them favor less humane faces, uh? That's one interesting point of view.

Ex-Nazi Furry...that sounds...weird. As I said... long story. Hmmm, question: where do centaurs, faun and satyrs fit in furrydom? That's an odd one, with the exception of gryphons, traditional greek mythology creatures are normally limited to furries into tabletop RPGs and role-playing (Should be noted role-playing happens for the most part in chat sessions rather than in person). On a side note Minotaurs are way more common within that group for some reason. Sort of, Monster girls are more a Japanese thing and I would argue they belong to a different fandom entirely. At least I never saw that much fuzz about them in furry boards/sites, however I have seen them pop up in manga and visual novels disscusions frequently as of lately.. Not as much as you would think, although I've seen them pop up every now and then in gaming discussions and tumblr I didn't catch that many when I was looking for a scalie example in furaffinity. Maybe because it was because I searched non-explicit results only but I don't think so. Maybe you should try checking out monster girls then? Seriously they are the "in" thing in Japan right now, hell they even made a harem anime featuring nothing but monster girls recently.

@dan E. Kool is that a parody of furry porn, or is it real (as in actual porn)?

Guilion, aren't you worried that you might be prosecuted for war crimes? They're still going after people you know. Can't you at least take down that gif on your signature? They'll find you if you keep it up.
