I have the game on steam and on disc. I'd like to see them try to take away my disc based version of gta 4 from me. I wonder if they can take the stuff out of the disc based version or if it only for the digital copies.

Actually, one of our users can answer that question for you; I remember winnersdontusedrugs saying that an official update by Rockstar caused his physical copy of IV to become unplayable & useless, he claimed years ago in a different thread. I think it had something to do with GFWL being shut down by Miscrosoft, which GTA IV used at the time. I'm not sure if Rockstar allows those who own physical copies of the game to redeem them for a digital version now that the physical copies are useless, but they should because that's the very least publishers should do for their customers in cases like these. Also, good to have you back man. You were gone for a while there. Hope you're feeling well.

I upgraded to newer hardware, and a more expensive case and there was no way to put a disc drive in it anymore. I ordered an external disc drive that attaches through usb and when I get that in I will test out if gta 4 still works or not through the installation disc. I have been thinking if gta 4 has an installation via disc how would they access the files on it and remove stuff? I'm assuming that if you took gfwl out of the equation when it comes to playing gta 4 that there's really no way for them to know if you have it installed via disc or not. Maybe there is something in the games files that let's them know it's installed through disc. I don't know just a theory really.
