You had ONE job, Microsoft! YOU HAD ONE, SIMPLE JOB!!!
As I've said countless times before, Halo CE is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. It was the FPS that got me interested in the FPS genre. Before Combat Evolved was released in 2001, I had already played several first person shooters, like Goldeneye 007 on N64 and the N64 port of Quake, and while I did enjoy these, it wasn't until I played CE on my bro's original Xbox that I fell in love with the FPS genre. I only played the splitscreen multiplayer at the time but that alone was enough to blow my mind.
Anyway, long story short, I fucking love Halo CE. And when I first learned in 2003 that Microsoft had released a PC port of the game, I was eager to try it, since I didn't have my own Xbox at the time. Many years later when I found out that this version of the game had exclusive weapons and multiplayer levels that weren't included on the Xbox version, I became very interested in playing this port again. Unfortunately (to my knowledge) it was never available digitally and the physical copies were broken on Windows 10 due to shitty DRM policies, so I lost any hope of playing this port.
...that is until a month ago when I heard that 343 Industries was bringing Halo PC to digital stores for the very first time. I was so excited that I went straight to Steam to confirm these rumors, but what I found out left me polarized. It's true, Halo PC is indeed scheduled to arrive on Steam in the near future, but there's a big catch;
it's the Master Chief Collection version of the game.
Why is this a problem for me? Well, two simple reasons:
1: At $39.99 for just the Halo 1 Remaster, it's overpriced as fuck. I'm in the midst of a financial crisis right now, and Microscum expects me to shell out $40 (with tax) for a simple HD remake of a 2003 PC game?? Are you serious Microsoft??
2: The Unreal 4 Engine used in the HD remaster is too demanding for my wimpy laptop. Again, if Microsoft was rereleasing the 2003 PC port of the game, I would be able to play it. But considering I get FPS drops while playing freaking Source Engine games then there's no way I'm going to be able to play anything that runs on the Unreal 4 Engine with my laptop. And since I don't have internet service at my apartment, I wouldn't be able to download it on my desktop PC.
At this point it would literally make more sense for someone in my position to just pirate the original 2003 PC port and use fan servers to play the online multiplayer, since that's the number 1 reason I'm interested in playing the PC port.
What a load of shit. Guess I'll have to wait until I can afford a new gaming laptop just to play a 2003 game. Good going, Microsoft.
