Automobile discussion of the week: BMW Isetta

The first time I ever saw an Isetta was in a clip from Family Matters, where in the episode it was Steve Urkel's first car. At the time, I literally thought the Isetta was just a goofy prop made exclusively for the show. I was shocked when I learned just recently that it was in fact a real-life vehicle known as the BMW Isetta that was actually sold to the public.

While I am impressed by its fuel efficiency (especially for the time), I can't say that I would prefer the Isetta over other microcars. It's front door design looks problematic. Personally I still prefer the Peel P50 when it comes to older microcars, but any of them would be way better than my hulking, ugly Chevy SUV.

Achieving the world record for the highest fuel efficiency for a micro car of its time is truly worthy of praise. The Isetta did more to combat climate change than you ever possibly could.

So it deserves a lot of credit for its efficient technology.

It looks very small on the pictures, as if it was for kids.

That's the problem with you, Balder. You're just a mainstream xenophobe who's always opposing new ideas or different ways of life.

I can't believe someone who's studying for an engineering degree like yourself would despise an automobile as fuel efficient and creator driven as the BMW Isetta.

People like you are the enemy of science and art. You should consider switching majors.

I've become more cynical with the years, but I have always frowned upon people that demand shit from other people while continuing their own lives as they see fit.
