I remember watching this film with my dad when I was little. At the time I was just a kid and completely unaware of Africa's history, namely how the continent was conquered & controlled by Europeans over hundreds of years. Talk about a messy history.
The film also shows the effect of heat stroke on the white soldiers, something my dad had to explain to me. What's really tragic is that even in their own element, defending their own land and far outnumbering the white invaders, the Zulus still lost. What a shame.
I haven't watched the film since then, and it would be hard for me to do so, because I would have too much trouble empathizing with the anglo army, AKA the film's "good guys". Like a lot of people I'm not sure what to think of this film nowadays.

I think this is Michael Caine's first movie. And he did a really good job with it. Fine acting by all, and a great Sabaton song as well.

Watched this movie on Tubi TV, here's what I think about it:
"Zulu reminds of those old epic war movies from the 50's and 60's. They are always filmed in Technicolor and are high budgeted. Zulu looks good for its time on a technical level, however, it has aged, and in many ways poorly. The pacing is painstakingly slow the first hour or so, and then the second half of the film is just a very long segment of samey battles. The battles are not very clear as it seems to me that the Zulus are absolutely incompetent. They always seem to have the British outnumbered, and could win at any point in the film, but they are awful at fighting and lose every encounter embarrassingly. The film is filled with British pride and at times it almost becomes a parody of itself. Still, with all of these negatives, there is still something charming about this movie, and for what it is worth, the Zulus are portrayed relatively fairly in terms not ridiculing them. I would rather watch other movies in this genre, but this is not the worst thing I have seen." 2.5/5

If I was there I would have helped the Zulu kill the anglos so they could have their land back and live at peace again. Yeah, right. Now that I think about it, I probably wouldn't have the guts to take a life. And I'm really not much of a fighter. But I know for sure I wouldn't side with the anglos. Africa still hasn't recovered from their invasion.

Mum has it in one of her unpacked boxes somewhere. I can't believe I've never watched this. This can be our next movie night then. What do you mean by Anglos? I hope you just mean the Brits and not White people in general? Spirit Bomb You know, they would probably skin you and give your organs to the witch doctor. You know, if you really wanted to help the Africans, you'd show them technology to help them stand and negotiate as equals when they first meet the British. Sad fact of life: the weak get eaten. They may have had numbers in those days, but they didn't have guns. But then again, it would've accelerated their /own/ slave trade.
