I'm not a Trekkie, but I did catch the reboot movie and, as I recall, I seemed to have liked it. Do you like the reboot? Never saw them They're made by J.J. Abrams so I expect them to be full of lense flare and buildup with no payoff.

This guy is famous for building up a good premise though and never delivering. Isn't Lost also made by this guy?

Lost is by him yes. By not delivering you probably mean ambiguity.
Ambiguity is cool, that's what makes movies like Blade Runner, The Shinning, or Space Odyssey have that extra kick at the end.

It's important to distinguish between ambiguity and never coming back to though. Like with the new Star Wars films, there's no ambiguity there. There are just a bunch of plot points that are never adressed. Like the Knights of Ren, the force sensitive kid in TLJ and Finn's secrets.

There are just a bunch of plot points that are never adressed. Like the Knights of Ren, the force sensitive kid in TLJ and Finn's secrets. I call that multithreading ambiguity. Star Wars is known for that. The original trilogy had a lot of those regarding the Luke Skywalker story, and how many unexplainable coincidences forge his destiny, even on small instances happening throughout the movies. I think George Lucas did it through his editors though, it didn't look at purpose, but it worked because it gave the sense that a higher power was at play making those coincidences happen. JJ on the other hand, definitely does it a purpose because he chooses themes that match our expectations. For example with the kid that is force sensitive, my expectations is that even if it is to be said the amount of midi-chlorian have a role on your Jedi force, the whole religion doctrine of the Jedi is strongly founded on faith or belief as well, so it would make sense that genes are not the only factor that determine you will become a Jedi, specially considering the influence your mind has over the physiology of your body. In regular humans for example, some studies suggest that if you get angry for 5 minutes you shut down your immune system for 5 hours, so the correlation between mind and body is always present. That's why Finn can also sense the Force, and he wasn't even instructed as a kid, he was just exposed to it heavily through the actions he took. So again, he is using expectations to plant those ambiguous threads without having to be completely ambiguous. Like in Amerian Psycho, it appears ambiguous, but it is really not. For JJ Star Wars ambiguity comes in the sense that if some people would like to expand on it they still can, but it is not necessary.

Nah, it's just poor writing. Hahaha, sounds like I touched a nerve. You know you are my brother, I don't mean to offend you at all. Those things I said may sound like irrefutable arguments, but they are just an opinion, a very sounding opinion, but it is still an opinion.

Balder I can't wait to see you watch the first 4 movies. You can compare them to some original episodes about how "Gene Roddenberry" they are. Do you have any prior knowledge of any? Most people know a few of them from "it is on this, oh this is the ____ one, etc."

Hahaha, I was expecting a long-winded reply from you on the subject, and since we've discussed it before, I wasn't going to continue that discussion here. I wrote a short and sassy retort in jest (mostly *wink). I know they're your opinions, and we all have those. I took no offense to anything, and hopefully you saw that my response wasn't with any malicious intent.

Most people know a few of them from "it is on this, oh this is the ____ one, etc." I know very little specific things about them. I do know that the first movie is sort of slow-paced and boring, that alternating movies are good, that Khan returns in Star Trek II (and that it's the best movie) and that the original crew appears in one of The Next Generation films. Also, Spock dies in one of the films, however, I don't know which one.

My brother, your malicious intent was off the charts, we have never seen anybody with so much malicious intent before. However I forgive you because you are my brother, and I know you mean bad, but I still appreciate you as a person because you are a great person regardless of your malicious intent. We could have had a beautiful discussion of many pages, multiple pages, and you killed it, you killed that beautiful thing we had going on. I know deep in your heart you love J.J., I can feel it, I don't think you would ever say no to watch anything by him, and that's enough for me. In fact, I can even blindly bet on it. I can even bet you watched all 121 hours of Lost already, and you enjoyed it, every one of them, you enjoyed them, that's how much I know you love J.J., not many many people can pull that off, but you did it man, deep inside you got it, you are just humble, and you keep it to yourself, and I appreciate you either way.

You're trying to egg me on but it's not effective. I haven't even watched a single minute of Lost, nor do I intend to.
