I'm actually waiting for the home release at this point with all the things going on.
I have a decent setup now with Kliptch speakers, and a solid receiver. I also changed my screen from white to gray, and from pull down, to framed.
It is not 135 inches anymore, but it is 120 inches, and that's already big enough, plus it gives me space to put the L/R speakers properly on each side, and to raise my center channel as well.
I'm very happy with my setup now, and I got it to watch these kind of movies that I can already tell I'm going to like. I like both, Jim Carrey, and Sonic The Hedgehog, so this is a great combination for sure.

Since we're doing video game related movies now for a while, put in the AVGN movie from me.

Good news, I find out this movie has a digital release already. I'm debating of watching that, or waiting for the Blu-ray, considering the Blu-ray usually has better sound.
By the way, I don't remember suggesting it, but I appreciate the mention.

stratogustav The Covid hype is overblown. Personally, I would sooner put my faith in a remedy like colloidal silver or copper than wait for some vaccine that's supposedly months down the track. Review time:
I went in with an open mind, and was not disappointed.
In the intro, the island Sonic raced across immediately took me back to Sonic on my brother's Master System. It also made me think of the fan movie and how much of this movie was inspired by THAT. But don't expect to see all the Easter Eggs in one sitting. Sonic has an owl guardian (of Ga'hoole), who tells him he can never be discovered by others because of his power. They then get attacked by Angel Island Echidnas, because Sonic was seen, and Sonic is sent to another planet with his warp rings (an obvious shoutout to Sonic 3's special stages). We eventually find him on Earth, living near the town of Green Hills. One night, Sonic has an existential crisis and inadvertently causes an EMP, which prompts the government to send in Dr. Eggman. Thus begins a road trip with his new human friend along the way, with various spots of 'chaos control' where time slows down so we can see him going fast. First of all, I have to ask: with all the characters in the Sonic multiverse, why did they even bother inventing the Owl character? Also, Sonic's life in self-exile for fear of people taking his power. This I didn't really understand. Maybe, because of his isolation, it never occurred to him that he didn't have to keep running, but he could stay and stand his ground. I mean, Earth was big enough. Even one mad scientist shouldn't be enough to send him packing to planet of the Mushroom hills. You know what? I've never really seen Sonic on any screen with any kind of internal conflict before. Now to Doctor Ivo Robotnik: I can't remember the last time I saw Jim Carrey playing a character like he did here. He has an assistant named Stone, playing the Snively/Grimer role, who's there to get the short end of the stick of his boss's tendencies. He's an odd choice because he's not fat. And I will take a point for the lack of 'snooping as usual I see'. His character also really stirs things up with badnik drones that have smaller badniks in them, and those having smaller ones in them as well. His tech is crazy, along with the super egg mobile he pilots towards the end, while he chasing Sonic along Chun Nan China and Spagonia Paris.
I kind of think that this continuity could easily be a precursor to something Modern/Dreamcast Sonic timeline, beginning with Sonic Adventure, with the humans and the modern cities. And Sonic's eyes are green, aren't they?
One more thing: I walked out before the credits came to and end and may have missed a cameo by Tails. So, just be aware...

Sonic passes Detective Pikachu as the most successful video game movie of all time.

I just watched the Sonic The Hedgehog movie, I just couldn't wait for the Blu-ray, so I watched the online version, which was good quality, and the sound too.
The movie was simply fun, many times better than Detective Pikachu. It was very fun all the way through, and it captured the spirit of the franchise perfectly.
I was very pleased with what they have done here. They truly have created a cinematic franchise with this. It is so good that it would not surprise me if we get a sequel. Plus they kind of hinted that at the end.
It is quite ironic because one of the worse movies I have ever seen is also by Sega, which is The House Of The Dead from 2003. I was still in school, so paying for a movie was a big deal, and the worse is that I was the one that suggested it because I love the games.
My girlfriend at the time saw my disappointed immediately, and it still remains as the only movie I have ever walked out from a theater. At least she compensated me for it afterwards.
This movie is a total contrast to that, props to Sega for what they did here.

Haven't seen it yet (may never watch it), but one problem I noticed right off the bat is that they seem to have misrepresented Sonic's character a bit. In the 2D Genesis games he was this edgy hero who seemed like the kinda character who would flip me the bird if he knew kids weren't present. this film, meanwhile, portrays him as a cutesy, wise-cracking comic-relief sidekick archetype that are very typical of a lot of family pictures these days. There's just something...off about this Sonic.
I mean, just compare Sonic in this movie to the way Sega originally depicted him in the Genesis games & Sonic CD:
Notice how much more edgy, serious and heroic he seemed? That's how I remember classic Sonic being.

Guys, take it to another thread. I don't need to be reminded the world's gone completely insane. And this was supposed to be about Sonic!

...yeah, I usually don't take issue with our threads getting derailed by political/social issues, but it seems like stratogustav is just spamming these coronavirus bulletins without any rhyme or reason in regards to the subject of the threads he's spamming on.

My kids loved this movie; while my wife didn't want to bash her head into the wall after seeing it. I call that a win for this genre of film.

Someone uploaded this movie onto YouTube and I took the opportunity to watch it. Here's my review of it: "Sonic the Hedgehog, a film mostly famous for its awful character design that they eventually fixed only to reap in at the box office. This smells like a conspiracy. I am a little bit irritated that I get roped into watching this movie because without that controversy, I think Sonic the Hedgehog would have performed much worse. Anyways, the film is as generic as they come. I get it, this is made for kids not for those kids who grew up with Sonic. I have played most of the Genesis games, but there is very little in this film that connects it to those games. There are so many characters in the Sonic franchise, yet they only use Sonic and Dr. Robotnik and the latter does not look like its gaming counterpart at all. The human characters are all trash. Awful and generic, but worst of all, boring. I wish there was more in this movie to make it feel like Sonic. Maybe use the music more? They only used the main theme once, faintly in the background after the climax. I know this movie is not for me, and I cannot fault it too much since most movies that appeal to kids are like this. It is just that I believe there is some potential for a good Sonic movie, or better yet, a good video game movie adaptation." 2/5 Here's the film if anyone wants to watch it before it inevitably gets taken down.

Balder your standards are way too high to have a good time. This movie is easily a 7 if all you are looking for is entertainment. Basically like any Spider-Man movie, they are all 7s. Movies in the 7 range are hard to rewatch though. For me to watch a movie more than once it would have to pass a long time. Also if I watched this on YouTube I probably would give it a 4. How you watch a movie matters.

havn;t seen it yet and probably won't until I accidentally watch it on TV or something. But for me the real Sonic movie will always be the underrated anime.
