I've seen this movie many times and it rocks. My favorite part is when the Terminator goes to the police station and kills everyone. Such a cool movie. It's very original too. Too bad all Terminator movies follow the same formula because aside from T2, none of them are especially good. I've watched this movie plenty og times, but haven't watched it in 5 years now.

I used to think Terminator 2 was better than this movie. As I have gotten older, the old cliches of Terminator 2 have worn thin. However, this movie has become greater and greater in my brain. This Sci-Fi/ action/ drama did not start the genre, but perfected it. This movie is amazing.

Balder - To me, the best part is the Tech Noir nightclub sequence, being a perfect mix of horror, action and the movie's cyberpunk aesthetics, besides being the moment that defines each character and their roles. But really, almost every scene in the movie is great and I rank it easily among my favourite sci-fi/horror films, alongside Alien and The Thing. These are probably my top three. My favorite things about it are the world building (albeit short, the scenes in the future are enough to give us a good view of the backstory and the state of the war against Skynet), the visuals and the Terminator himself as a character. In essence, the movie is a slasher film, not different from Halloween, but they changed the setting, elaborated upon the villain and created a deep and interesting backstory, enough to make the movie feel like a completely new thing and have its own identity. You can recognize bits from other movies, like Blade Runner, but it never feels like The Terminator is copying them. Also, all the performances are memorable. Arnold is convincing as an unstopable killing machine, Michael Biehn does a great job depicting Kyle Reese as a PTSD ridden, but still very capable soldier grown in a guerrilla warfare, and Linda Hamilton does a subtle enough transition between the naive Sarah Connor at the beginning of the movie to the woman who will fight against a terminator and become the mother of John Connor at the end. Just compare them to Terminator 5, in which John Connor is just a generic military dude and Sarah Connor depicted as a standard female action hero, without any subtlety or character arcs at all. Good actors and a good direction can make a hell of a difference. A 5/5 movie to me. I rank it slightly above T2, but both are really good.

The future scenes are the sequel movie we need but will never get. Just like the first 2 minutes or so in 2.

Just like when the Terminator tries order a plasma rifle or something at the gun store. It's a neat little detail.

I like how it tried to do something different, but it failed miserably in my opinion. It's a shame that no Terminator movie ever tried something else than the god damn time traveling plotline.

Only the first 2 Terminator movies count. Everything else is just fan fiction to me.
This movie has Arnold, but not only that, it is one of the best things he has ever done, so saying this movie is a 10 out of 10 is undermining it, really.
The movie is a staple of sci-fi mastery, and one of the most influential movies of all time. Truly iconic, and reaches authors from all generations that are looking for inspiration.
It is no wonder just on the release it did something like 13 times its budget on the box office. A timeless hit, that will always be memorable as one of the all time classics.
These are the kind of movies that give films the prestige they have as an art form, riviling other artistic endeavors, and showing that talent is talent, and it can't be questioned because it is what it is.

I love this film, it's my favorite in the series. It really is too bad the franchise took such a nosedive after T2. I agree with that top three, can't think of anything I would replace any of them with. Predator and Invasion of the Body Snatchers(1978) would round out my top 5 I think. I now recall someone thinking it was silly that I referred to Terminator as a slasher movie before but don't remember who it was.

IMO Terminator is grossly overrated crap just like all of James Cameron's films. I enjoy the film's impressive level of suspense, but the premise is extremely boring and unimaginative by sci-fi standards. The sci-fi elements themselves are very weak (time travel and robots? Wow, nobody saw that before) and the characters suck too.
It's either a 2/5 or a 3/5 for me. I'll just give it a 3/5 for now.

Yeah, because god forbid when someone has an unpopular opinion around here. Nothing I said in my post was objectively offense in any way. I was even kind enough to give ol' Termy a 3/5 instead of a 2/5. Get a grip, Balder.
