I have to say, I'm hyped up. Better start saving!
What are people wanting from Nintendo and their new console?

Imagine if all of the sudden PlayStation Neo 4K turns out to be Nintendo NX as well, and it turns out SNK had something to with it which is why the code name Neo X.
Then Sega announces a new Genesis, a 9th gen one, which would explain why NIS America is deciding to transfer their publishing privileges back to Sega.
An event that will follow with Xbox announcing they will leave the console market to focus on Windows platforms exclusively while joining forces with Steam and Oculus.
What would you guys do? We will be basically back in the 90s again, with Nintendo, Sega, and PC as our options.

I will need more details to be sure, but I imagine I will get the NX. I like Nintendo's first party stuff and the Wii U was lacking but even that I was happy enough with.
@strato If all that happened I would know something terrible happened to me and I'm in a coma. I would possibly not want to wake up though.

No idea, will maybe find out during whatever event Nintendo decides to hold for it as it's been confirmed the NX won't be at e3.

Oh man!... I don't know what I'll do. M$ has pretty much no third-party support (they are in that place Nintendo was during the GameCube era), Sony is completely lost regarding what to do next apparently, and Nintendo is just being a huge asshole against consumers.
I'd love to take the simpler route: buy the NX and have fun; but will I have fun with a company shoving burkas on main characters in my games? Will I be ok with their intentional deprivation of third-party support? Won't I ever be personally hit by any of their policies?

To be fair in terms of size of library to ratio, the GameCube did have heavy third party support. Obviously the sales of the PS2 overshadowed them in this regard. But I remember even Atari was like Activision for the GameCube.
Wii on the other hand had heavy 3rd party support, but it felt like it didn't because it was mostly shovelware stuff, more casual market oriented, and the only reason why they had that kind of support is because the sales of the sytem were huge, but people mostly care about the first party titles.
And that's the ultimate truth about Nintendo, no one really wants to play 3rd party games on a Nintendo console. People buy it for the first party titles alone with only a few exceptions.
The only way Nintendo would be 3rd party likeable in the subconscious of people is if they merge once again with PlayStation which is a console that sells mostly for 3rd party titles.
That's like saying Xbox and FPS. PlayStation has spend so many resources in trying to appeal to the FPS market, with a FPS launch title, FPS MMO, getting in bed with FPS devs like Bungie, featuring FPS in every major conference, buying early DLC from established franchises, spending millions and millions of dollars in publicity, and even while selling twice as many consoles than Xbox, Call Of Duty still sells more on Xbox.
Why? Because that's how people's brains work. People that asks Nintendo to focus on trying to get third party support are ignorant of this reality. It is almost impossible for Nintendo to win that battle because no matter what they do, people's brain is already setup that way after years of familiarity to the way things are.
They tried with the Wii U launch, they came up with a big controller, and also a pretty much clone of the Xbox controller as an option, then look at the lineup of launch titles:
Assassin's Creed III Batman Arkham City Darksiders II Call Of Duty Black Ops II FIFA 13 Madden NFL 13 NBA 2K13 Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge Tekken Tag Tournament II Transformers Prime Warriors Orochi 3
So what happened? They didn't launch with a Zelda or a Mario or any other strong first party game, and no one bought the machine, even Black Ops II clearly looked so much better on the Wii U than the current PS3/360 versions of the games since the Wii U had more power at the time, but no one bought it, and their future sales were ruined as a consequence.
Let's not ignore that reality when criticising Nintendo. They are pretty much with their hands tied up. Their strength has always been 2 things:
- First Party - Innovation
When they came up with the NES pad they saved the industry, when they came up with motion, they won that generation by far, when they release handhelds with dualscreens look how the PSP does against it, or one with 3D and look what happens to the Vita sales, even with all the 3rd party support they could gather.
That's just how it is. Unless the technology is too out of its time like the Virtua Boy, they pretty much don't have other options for success.
NX has to be the new thing, not a PlayStation clone. They tried that with the GameCube and it didn't work. They tried to be Xbox on the Wii U launch and it didn't work. They need to be NES, Wii, DS, etc., but something new because they already did that.
Either that or merge with PlayStation, take over the brand like back in the SNES days. Let Sega release a new Genesis, and let Microsoft focus on PC and their Windows platforms by merging with Steam and Oculus.
So we can all be happy like back in the 90s where Nintendo, Sega, and PC were our only options. What a dream that would be, because for now we are forced to have two consoles, one for Nintendo and one for third party, which I guess somewhat serves against a monopoly, but we are running out of shelve space.

So, I had no idea the game nicknamed Zelda WiiU/NX isn't actually a new edition of Hyrule Warriors... Wow! That's... Disappointing. Going by Nintendo's track record with first-party developing for The Legend of Zelda I guess I might give the NX 2 years before even considering a purchase. Seeing how the only game they'll show at E3 is this Zelda NX, I believe the first year of this new system will be another wasteland. stratogustav and Dan E. KoolI think you guys just haven't observed much. Also, first party has been Nintendo's weakest spot since the DS/Wii days, while innovation was a PR stunt exclusively for the Wii. Nintendo doesn't really do or knows how to innovate.

@spider If by first party weakness you mean the Wii U launch line, that's exactly what I said. About innovation there was nothing new about the Wii U that the Wii, the DS, and the Xbox didn't have already.

Also the library is pretty good. Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Yoshi's Woolly World, Captain Toad, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Kirby And The Rainbow Curse, Super Mario Maker, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, are all excellent pieces of software.
The party games like Wii Party U, Mario Party 10, Wii Sports Club, Nintendo Land, Sonic & Mario At The Sochi Olympic Winter Games, Game & Wario, are all excellent as well, and only criticised by those that don't have who to play with, but the games are good.
With the exception of Splatoon that can be liked even by those without friends just by the online nature of the game.
Star Fox Zero and Hyrule Warriors may be the only ones that not everyone would like, but at least for Hyrule Warriors I can testify the game is good, and I'm sure I'll enjoy Star Fox Zero too.
Sadly not many people have the privilege to experience them because of the bad decisions of Nintendo at launch trying to be someone they are not.

...Except for a screen in the controller and the beginnings of remote play... Dreamcast and Ps3, respectively, had that already. But I can understand if depending on how mileage varies some may feel safe consuming from Nintendo. I must say, however, that titles like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario World 3D and others mentioned had been surpassed well before they came out, and that their level of quality in relation to the year they were released was a new low for Nintendo. I know I wouldn't have played many Nintendo games if there was better stuff readily available elsewhere/everywhere-else.
