This kind of sucks. The Genesis mini was awesome. I don't know why this is being made. The thing is tiny, and it comes with 4 games. This is just going to be a novelty that will end up creating more e-waste. Yuck.

lol stratogustavI'd actually like a black, blue and red one. I'd love if they become hackable so I can add the full Game Gear library on there, but I'd like to get at least a black one regardless. Sadly, it seems haters are spamming social media about this, so SEGA may not even consider releasing these outside of Japan. SEGA has a very bad rep of exclusively catering to the Japanese market and appeasing haters first and foremost, so it's unlikely we'll even be given a chance to buy these here.

If it wasn't for fans of the series, the Yakuza games would of never caught on in the west by sighing petition after petition for the games to be released outside of Japan. As for the GameGear Mini I don't really care for it. Basic emulation could do a much better job and more of a convenient and comfortable way of experiencing these games. And i would rather have them release a Saturn mini which I would buy on day one if the basic Saturn library was included such as the Panzer Dragoon games.

Gentlemen, you know I don't hate on products just for the fun of it. For a modern release, this looks like a terrible idea. I can't believe they actually are going to sell a magnifier. That was a product of the times in the 90s. It should stay there! We have advanced so much since then. Goofy trinket collectable knock off portables at CVS and Walgreens sell with larger screens and way more than 4 games. I don't think the people who are against this are haters. Sega did an amazing thing with their mini. People started to respect them again. The people rolling their eyes at this know that Sega can do better. I think a Saturn mini like Bogard said would do wonders for the company. Or heck, why not a 32x Sega CD mini? I'd love a Game Gear too. Just not this.
stratogustav, I agree with you on Armored Core Raven's post. Armored Core Raven, you do have really quality graphical posts. Your pictures are always perfectly aligned. How do you always do that? Whenever I post pictures, the sizes are all over the place. I sometimes have to use the snipping tool and drop it as a personal picture from my hard drive.

Even the mini consoles are mostly novelties, but they have a purpose of making old games available. These things fail at that because their scope is incredibly limited.

Wasn't the whole Segata Sanshiro thing for the 60th anniversary too? The one where my dumb ass thought it was gonna be a VF sequel? I hope Sega at least manages to amuse their Japanese audience with these shenanigans.

I'd be happier if they sold the Brazilian Genesis/Mega Drives around the world.

But can you really sell the same old thing to the same crowd forever? It's a wonder Brazil hasn't got its own Mega Drive homebrew game industry. Too poor?

I think Brazil has the whole spectrum, there are people there in the 1% richest of the world, and there is a lot of poverty too, plus people ranging all around the middle, but because the poor are so many too, it is easy to notice that more.

It's a wonder Brazil hasn't got its own Mega Drive homebrew game industry. Too poor? To really become an industry, pretty much, yes. But there is a thriving indie/homebrew community. On the indie side, remember that 16-bit-style games like Blazing Chrome and the Momodora series are brazilian; on the homebrew side, I saw recently a Digital Foundry episode about a Sonic port to the SNES: Also, one of the main programmers of Pier Solar and the Great Architects is a brazilian dude, too (Tulio Gonçalves): Seeing how Pier Solar is one of the major homebrew efforts on the Mega Drive, it shows how the homebrew community here is small but very dedicated. Edit: It's also important to notice that, while the Mega Drive and Master System still get somewhat frequent rereleases, they're received as if they were in the same category of those "mini" consoles - that is, they're sold to people who either buy them for kids or out of nostalgia, they're not meant to compete with current consoles or anything. Anyway, it's still really nice that Sega keeps a symbolic presence around here, I love it.

I'm with dschult3, the unit isn't practical. If this was released alongside the Tiger Handhelds, it might look halfway decent..
