2006, man time flies. I remember this documentary was very popular.
Regardless of the politics, I do like many kinds of apocalyptical media for the sci-fi entertainment value alone.
I feel when they are done in the form of a documentary they are more satisfactory sometimes because they make it sound more realistic, and intense.

More like from the garbage bin. I agree in this case, I don't think I could enjoy it at this point. Spoiler alert, it didn't happen.

EDIT: Can't seem to find it except for rentals.
EDIT 2: My university library has it though. So if I don't find it, I'll watch it after the summer.

Lots of high-profile documentaries around this time, I give points to this movie for not being shockingly dumb like Super Size Me. Still, that's probably one of the only aspects of this movie that hasn't aged like shit. Documentaries are manipulative by design, nowadays I would never watch one for education purposes.

Was it Super Size Me where the guy claimed he nearly died from eating nothing but take out for six months?.

Most documentaries that are loved by the masses are usually pretty bad or misleading/pushing agendas, but the genre of documentaries has so many incredible films. If you want to watch some masterpieces you should watch For All Mankind (the 1989 one), Dear Zachary or The King of Kong.

Okay Spirit Bomb. I know you haven't posted in this thread, and I know why. It'll just turn into a shit show so I don't really know why you wanted to discuss this movie, but maybe you'll come back to it when things settle in your every day, but I watched this thing with the lowest expectations possible, but came to terms with the fact that it wasn't that bad. "I will quite honestly say I was not stoked to watch this documentary, like at all. I thought it was going to be some extreme left wing talk about how awful society is and how we need to shut down pretty much every new technological innovation, but I was surprised to see that it was not that. What is shown here is mostly empirical data and the way it is presented makes it very clear. There really is not a lot of room for interpretation, and the film debunks some common myths like the one where scientists are not in agreement about human-made global warming. I was not old enough to care about politics, let alone American politics when Al Gore was running for president, so this is pretty much my only time watching him and while he seems like a reasonable dude, I did not care for his jokes. I know that he is trying to make this "Ted talk" more fun, but there is no way of making this more fun in the format they are going for. It is a lecture with a fancy PowerPoint. So from a film perspective, this documentary is not good at all. The things Gore wants common people to change in their every day are actually very doable and reasonable for once. This turned out to be a lot better than I thought it was going to be, but as a film, it is not good hence the lower score." 2.5/5

We as first world citizens have the power to make a difference in the struggle against global warming. Anyway, I'm glad you learned something from the film. For the sake of our planet, I hope you put this knowledge to good use.

I recycle, never waste electrical power and try to use it as efficiently as possible, eat generally less meat than I did before and I drive a car with good mileage. But the thing is, it doesn't really matter what I can do when there are gigantic cities powered by coal and other old-tech power plants. Those things need to change in order to give a sizeable impact.

But the thing is, it doesn't really matter what I can do when there are gigantic cities powered by coal and other old-tech power plants. Those things need to change in order to give a sizeable impact. As I've said before, the automotive industry has an even bigger impact on greenhouse gas emissions than coal-fired power plants do. China is probably the largest consumer of coal of any country on the planet, but the U.S.A.'s per-capita carbon emissions dwarf China's simply because of the insane amount of driving & other forms of private transportation in the U.S., which is why the U.S.A. has the largest carbon footprint of any country overall. Here, there is no limit to how much greenhouse gas any U.S. citizen can produce; the only real limit is how much money you have to spend on petroleum at the local gas station. In America, there are no taxes on driving, there are no taxes on automobile ownership, there are no toll booths (even in most cities), etc., so our citizens are limited only by their annual income when it comes to how much fossil fuels they can burn. It's fucked up. American freedumb comes at the expense of our planet's welfare.
