I'm going to start this thread off right with some good old american redneck stupidity. Behold:
This is an older failure from several years back. Some vandals destroying a natural rock formation in a Utah state park. The dumbasses were eventually caught and convicted of criminal activity. Haha! Serves them right.

scipioafricanus, That study is specifically about "Eating and drinking on-site at locations that offer such options", though - so it's about people that took their masks off to eat in public locations and got infected. Which means that it doesn't matter if you think you "always or often" wear a mask but then stupidly go eat in a public place.

People should learn what Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Zinc are. Plus the whole washing your hands with soap after every time you go out is something you should always do regardless there is pandemic or not, before eating, and before touching your face, or at least use some alcohol gel when you are out touching things.
The mask thing is just good manners when you are sick and you don't want to sneeze or cough on someone else. These are basic second grade norms that should be done with or without pandemic. If someone thinks those masks are going to protect people, well, they won't, unless they are certified N95 masks, they won't do much for anyone.

I can see why Maestro is concerned by this because although masks aren't a guarantee that you won't contract the virus, it still is a barrier than can defend you from it. Of course it has to be used properly and you still have to use other means of shielding yourself from it. We don't have any mask requirements over here, but there's disinfectant on every corner, so it seems to be working fine for the moment.

As both Strat and Balder pointed out, it is all about being responsible with wearing it. As hypochondriac adjacent, this is all old hat for me. When they first said, "masks don't work, don't worry about them" this was the point: most people have NO IDEA how to wear them properly. They put them on wrong, wear them wrong, take them off wrong, etc. This was when there was a shortage for medical staff who SHOULD know how to wear them, so why waste them on someone who won't do it properly?
For crying out loud, there are still people that cough into their hands... or take off their mask to cough into their hands #joebiden.
Requiring people to do something that they are going to fail to do most of the time and make facists of people who demand they do it right, usually when they are doing it wrong, is not good policy.

Definitely, being responsible is worth much more than a false sense of security. Masks in themselves are a good thing, but in the hands of incompetent people they won't do much good. Is there still a shortage over at you guys' country?

I say that the use of masks sould be compulsory everywhere because it makes our reality look more like Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi and/or American Ninja.

If people would wear actual ninja masks with ninja hoods I would approve that. Back to the topic, just looking at my cellphone apps, I definitely consider that an epic fail. How did it get this bad? At least AOL, Yahoo!, Altavista, MySpace, and Skype are not a thing anymore. I would say, Tumblr, Flicker, Photobucket, and LinkedIn have to go. I need to slowly start cutting down things one way or another. Imgur is not even working for me, so that one can go, and Telegram I barely use it, so I can cut that too.
