Excellent choices centipede, you always do a good job with those. All the background noises sound pretty outstanding in this movie. My official rating for this movie is 8.7. Psychological thriller is one of my favorite movie genres, like Memento or Insomnia, so it is not surprising I liked this movie. It is pretty remarkable how Christian Bale made the sacrifice of losing that much weight just to do the film. I can always respect that. This movie touches on some subjects common to the genre, and they are always interesting to explore. Ghost In The Shell is another movie that explores many of these subjects, on how people depend so much of their memories, to the point that the way they believe the world works is how they make sense of their own reality. You definitely need to be in the right mood to watch a movie like this or Secret Window, and if you are in that headspace you can always enjoy it. The girl from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and the woman from the Spanish soap opera Velvet are here too. I feel all people have a degree of the problems Trevor presents here. Simple blind spots that people choose to ignore, but that can be very liberating once they confront them.

I watched The Machinist just under two years ago and I thought it was good, but it isn't all that great when you compare it to some of the masterpieces in the psychological thriller genre. I think it's prettty good overall, but there are just a couple of things that could have been done differently. I wrote a review of it when I watched it, however, SPOILER ALERT. Don't read the review if you haven't seen the movie.
"This film is quite infamous for Christian Bale's dedication to his mastery. He looks like absolute shit, like he is a heroin addict or something. He is very impressive, I must say. The film though... It has its moments, definitely. I love the homage to Hitchcock even though I am not a big fan of Hitchcock. The whole film feels like it is building up this twist when it really is not a twist. Of course he is the same person. That was established in the beginning. And then it turns out he is the killer of the kid. It comes out of nowhere it feels. Like if they put some clues to guide us into even considering that, but no. It is surprising yes, but at the same time I am thinking: "Okay, is that all you want to show us? I was expecting more". It is a good movie, even great at times, but movies like these live or die with their twists. There are better things in this category like Jacob's Ladder, one of my favorite movies which this reminded me of." 3.5/5

one of my favourite thrillers ever and one of Christian Bale's best movies imo. To me the strength of the movie isn't really the plot or story, but the atmosphere. It's filled with dread but in a relaxing way if that makes sense. One of those movies I watch when I feel down or on a rainy and cloudy day or during the night for optimum atmosphere. 8.5/10

It's such a fantastic genre though filled with awesome movies such as Seven, The Game, Jacob's Ladder and to some extent Mulhollhand Drive, although that last one is also surrealistic.

Some of the very best actors are/were devout method actors like Marlon Brando and Daniel Day Lewis.

You're only saying that because they're yoursI don't mean the movie selection. I mean the made up rating choices. They always go well with the movie.
