Capcom pretty much owns the FGC at this point. They make money from tickets if i'm not mistaken. Also advertisements revenue and all the sponsorship going around with the partnerships with major publishers and console manufacturers. That's really interesting. How much does it cost to participate? I really haven't been serious about fighting games since I was in high school in the '90s. I loved the genre, but life got in the way of hanging out at the arcades. (Arcades? What are those these days?) The competitiveness in the arcade was awesome then. There was never a more interesting local story than when the local arcade nut was beaten by some random stranger. Do they play against each other in person, or does it have to be online?

Not sure how much they cost, but only the top tier players like Daigo and Infiltration get sponsored by major companies. It has to be in person to eliminate all the possible hindrance such as lag when playing online. Despite SFV somewhat bombing commercially, its breaking entrants records in EVO. There are currently more than 3000 entrants for SFV in EVO2k16

This conversation is 5 years old now. Wow.
Apparently Capcom is releasing its final DLC for Street Fighter V, and I still don't know a person outside of forums who plays the game. What a shame. Does anyone play it on this forum?

I do once in a while. The game is definitely losing steam, so they are planning on moving on. It honestly last longer than expected, but I feel the lockdowns slowed down a lot of things in general.
The good thing about Street Fighter games is that they continue to be enjoyable even after they lose support, even when there is already a new one outside.
This can be good news too because it is always interesting to see what they are going to do with the next entry.

Does anyone play it on this forum? I played it for a very short while. It was fun, however, it required too much of an investment of time, which I could not be bothered with.
