So, I've recently began using Steam as some of you may have noticed, and my first purchase was Mushihimesama. What a fucking game! It's a pity it's so short, but what is there is marvelous; enemies move in a quite charismatic fashion (for realistic-looking bugs, that is), bosses look great, shot patterns are interesting, and there are 2 additional modes I don't even understand yet. Also interesting to note that there are enough difficulty settings to challenge the guy who's just starting to play shmups and the crazy dude who was drawn to this game due to youtube videos (I guess that's how this game got "popular"). A bunch of catchy tunes there too... fsfsxiiHad sake just the day after you said that. manicottimafiaNow we need a game in which we bounce around Wario's man boobs.

spidershinobi - Hey mate, don't forget to get Hotline Miami in the current Steam sale! It's an awesome game. I just bought the sequel today, it seems to play as well as the original.

Cervantes I have that one on Ps3. Since I didn't advance much in it I'm not sure about getting the sequel yet, specially since other games on sale interest me more, such as Broforce. Btw, what a lousy discount on Gungeon!

spidershinobi - Man, if I wasn't so strapped on cash this month, I would probably buy the entire Devolver Digital's catalogue. That's an amazing publisher; almost everything on sale interests me. Maybe I can spend a few more bucks to buy Shadow Warrior... (My wallet is screaming right now)

Shadow Warrior is definitely the best deal there. You know what's funny? Shadow Warrior, Wolfenstein, Doom, are games I'd buy in a second under a sale like that... IF I hadn't known the Borderlands series. I'm just too spoiled from that series.
I'm finding steam to be an appealing platform. Those sales can be very relevant at times.

Am I missing something? I've played Expendabros today, unlocked all the characters, got tired and stopped. So, is Broforce just that? Like, is there considerably more meta that can't be found in Expendabros?

Starting up Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on the Wii U (grabbed during the recent Friends of Nintendo Humble Bundle).
Edit: I also got Freedom Planet in the same sale, so giving that a try. You can definitely see that it started out as a Sonic fan game (or so I am told), but it has been pretty distinct and fun so far.

I played some good hours of Hotline Miami 2 yesterday. It's really, really great, and absurdly hard. It improves on the first game with more level variety and ways to play (there's a mask that lets you control two guys at once, it's awesome). The only limitation, IMO, is that the first game lets you play any stage using any mask; in the sequel, each stage is limited to a specific set of masks or weapons, as each level is played by a different character. Also, each character may have their own gameplay peculiarities, so it may be frustrating when you're obligated to use a character that you dislike - like the military man that can't change his weapons, or the dude that has to execute some people in the level before he can use firearms.

Melee again! For some reason I've been sucking lately, though. I don't know why. I think it might have to do with the fact that I've been depriving myself of sleep the last few days.

I've beaten Hotline Miami 2, so I'm playing it again on hard. I don't like to admit it, but I think I'm disappointed by the game. It's still fun, mind you; the story is also good (although I preferred the more personal and "pointless" story of the first game instead of the far more elaborated from the second one).
So let me elaborate: the level design is f***. The levels are huge this time, and are very open... And yet, most enemies use guns and can shoot from very, very far away (more than your view can even reach). But this still wouldn't so bad if it wasn't for the f****** windows. Seriously, every single wall in this game is made of glass so the enemies can shoot through them. They were there in HM1, but in HM2 the levels are entirely made of them. The result is that I'm feeling obligated to play in a very defensive way, slowly baiting enemies into corners and shooting blindly from very far. Especially on hard mode, this makes the game very frustrating and boring, as I take too long to get to the end of the level just to be shot dead by a random offscreen enemy (and remember: the levels are huge this time and you still die in one hit).
Another problem I commented on my previous post: if you were having trouble in some level of HM1, you could always try again with a different mask that gave you better abilities for that level; in HM2, you're usually obligated to use a single character/ability in most levels, so, if you're having trouble, there's no way around it.
While I got the best possible ranking in every level of HL1 and got all the achievements (I just loved it so much), it's a chore to even finish the hard mode in HM2, and I'm not looking forward to replay the levels for better rankings.
EDIT: And now that I'm in the final levels of Hard mode, I'm absolutely hating it. It accentuates every terrible thing about the game and I'm having no fun at all, so I don't think I'll even have the patience to finish it. And considering how much I loved the first game, HM2 is becoming one of the worst disappointments I've had with a game in the last few years.

@luke Glad you enjoyed that one.
Still working through Bravely Second, but I also finished up Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows yesterday and started playing through Galak-Z. I had played a few levels of Galak-Z and put it down, but I'm glad I went back. This strikes me as one Mark would probably enjoy.

I'm still playing these: F22 Interceptor (Mega Drive) LHX Attack Chopper (Mega Drive) Doom (32X) Metal Head (32X) Virtua Racing Deluxe (32X) Centipede (PSX) Iron Soldier 3 (PSX) Kirikou (PSX) Newman Haas Racing (PSX) Re-Loaded (PSX) T'ai Fu Wrath of the Tiger (PSX) Viewpoint (PSX) And I'm also playing these: Super Mario Land (Game Boy) I've never liked the sequels to this, but the original being noticeably closer related to the classic Entertainment System trilogy than to Super Mario World on Super Nintendo like 6 Golden Coins and Wario Land are I absolutely love and often revisit Super Mario Land, kick Tatanga's butt and save Daisy, the only Nintendo princess I still like in her modern form, even if mostly because she reminds me more of the animated version of princess Toadstool from the late 80s/early 90s than the blonde bimbo Barbie clone that sadly is modern day Peach. Winter Challenge (Mega Drive) What can I say? I love old 3D games, especially for Mega Drive, I can't get enough of them, they remain as great as when they were new and still impress me more than the most technologically advanced games of today. It takes something extra to make a sports game interesting to me in general and these kinds of multi event games like the Track & Field and Summer/Winter series are actually really fun, at least for the most part, save for a few specific events in some titles like figure skating or ball throwing where you have to spin around before you throw an iron ball always fail to tickle my fancy. Brahma Force (PSX) A first person mech action sim game I missed out on back in the day but may be getting my hands on soon depending on how much I end up liking it. I'm only borrowing a copy currently to test it out before I decide if I want a copy myself or not. So far it's been a mixed bag, I like the visuals and the smooth controls but the constantly respawning enemies, heavily restricted and tiny levels, short and overly basic "press button to ride elevator"-style missions, plain and uninteresting enemy design, unintuitive and unexciting item and upgrade system and lackluster presentation all keep me from truly enjoying it. I hope it gets better or I may not bother with this one. It's on the fence at the moment. KKND Krossfire (PSX) I wish I had this one myself but I'm borrowing a copy from a friend, again. I'm mainly replaying this to remind myself what it's like now that I've finally gotten hold of the PC original, for comparison. The PSX port is hard to find these days and has sadly been overly expensive when found, it's risen in ranks in my most sought after games over the last couple years but I'm not willing to go to such extremes. If I find it cheap it'll be an instant purchase though. Tomb Raider II (PSX) Just been revisiting some favorite levels like Tibetan Foothills and 40 Fathoms. DT Racer (PS2) My favorite racing game of all time, I always come back to it and it's always a reminder of how good a racing game can actually be. Enthusia (PS2) Another top favorite racer I return to rather frequently. It lacks some things but makes up for it with other things. Overall it's one of the very greatest. Rally Fusion (PS2) Actually been playing this a lot recently as I started a new save file, I usually don't do that in racing games as they tend to have what I want unlocked near the end so the vast majority of the games I'm just enduring repetitive races with shitty cars I don't want to drive to get to the good parts that make the games worth playing to begin with. This game offers the right things at the right time while unlocking the right things at the right pace to make this kind of playthrough enjoyable for me. Metroid Other M (GameCube Wii) Another top favorite I return to frequently and over the years has been the one game to keep my Wii warmed up and from being placed in a box only to be taken out once in a blue moon whenever I get a new game for it. Picked up from where I last left off, in the post game after my most recent playthrough. After that's done it's time yet again to make a new save file and start over, as is tradition. KKND 2 Krossfire (PC) Finally I have this for PC! After having only ever played the PSX version in the past it's nice to finally play this version and see for myself how different they are. So now after having given this a try I think they both have enough unique qualities to stand on their own and I won't be picking favorites any time soon. The PSX version plays so different that it's like a whole other game, while this plays more like a traditional strategy game like Command & Conquer, WarCraft II or StarCraft the PSX version plays with a more command based style where you take control using groups, something the PC version kind of has as well but not quite in the same way, it's more secondary and optional on PC whereas on PlayStation it's the way to play the game. I have to say though this and the PSX version are both way harder than other games in the genre, at least in my experience, I find the easy settings in Krossfire as hard or possibly even harder than the hardest levels they all have to offer. WinX Club (PC) I've been a fan of the franchise from day one and this Konami developed game from the mid 2000s is based on the first season of the animated series. You play as Bloom and pretty much do what she does during the first season of the show. It's a story driven action adventure, you fight enemies and bosses, take on side-quests to unlock extras, do some platforming and minigames from time to time, it's kind of like a mix between Ratchet & Clank/Jak & Daxter, Harry Potter and Bratz. I like it, it's not a great game and you really have to be a fan of the show to enjoy it properly, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is not and even those who are need to be somewhat forgiving as it's not perfect, Konami has done better.
