I didn't see those issues on Super Mario 64 when I played it, but I'm bias because I can play that game without fixing the camera. The reason is that I probably played Super Mario 64 too much back in the day that I can jump backwards, and still fall on a platform. The same thing goes with Super Mario World, but the one I need more practice is Super Mario Bros. 3. I need to play that one more to bring it to the other games level. I hear you, but I'm in the same boat. I find it very odd. As I said, my Nintendo 64 is still hooked up to a TV and plugged into a wall. Maybe it is because I find the lack of the N64 controller off putting. I don't know, but I was pissed when I played it yesterday. Super Mario Galaxy made up for that, though. (Rosalina rules!)

Nothing better than playing with the original hardware, and the original controllers, on a CRT, that's just king.

Dragon Quest VII on 3DS Tokyo Xanadu eX+ on PS4
DQ7 has been a bit of a slog so far, so I've only been playing it in short increments. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes me a year. Tokyo Xanadu has been fun, but I haven't been playing it long. It is an Action RPG using the same engine Falcom uses for Trails of Cold Steel.

I'm almost done with the Mega Man classic series, MM11 is the next and final one. I really want to post two or three lines of impressions on every one of the 12 games, I'm having a blast with most of them - the weaker ones really are 8 and MM & Bass, but even them had some great moments. Mega Man is always a solid series, I'm itching to redo a X/Zero/ZX run after I finish this one. In the meantime, I've played two other games:
Shadows of the Damned (360) - It's well known that EA interfered too much with Suda 51's original idea, to the point that it ended up being a very "meh" kind of game. That's most of my opinion on it: it feels like a Resident Evil 4 clone without the great setpieces or deep gameplay (RE4 has a quite good degree of freedom in how you manage your items or choose/upgrade different weapons). So even the zany story and crass jokes can't do much: even the humour felt like a bit derivative, maybe trying a mix between Robert Rodriguez (from his El Mariachi/Desperado/Once Upon a Time in Mexico days) and Evil Dead. Luckily, the game doesn't have any bugs or outright bad levels, and is short enough to end before it gets boring. It's a very 5/10 thing, which is disappointing only because the original concept was so promising, especially by reuniting Suda 51, Shinji Mikami and Akira Yamaoka. Here's a video on why and how it went wrong:
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (XBOX): Now, this one is quite close to perfection. Although it's a flying game, they went for controls and gameplay that feel like an arcade game, so it's very easy to pick-up, it's fast and full of short, fun missions. The controls are less like an usual flying game and more similar to, let's say, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed when the cars turn into planes, so you're always chasing enemies in high speeds and doing fast maneuvers. Also, as it has fantasy elements, there are some gorgeous levels and impressive bosses, like a mechanical snake or a giant blimp that eats other blimps. The controls are so good that I spent a great deal of time just exploring the levels between missions, and frankly, the only flaw that I point out is that the levels should be much larger to allow for more exploration. It's understandable, though, as the game is running on the original Xbox, but if they made a modern sequel, it would greatly benefit from either and open world or at least some huge levels. The missions are very creative and do a good job in keeping the game varied enough. There are planes and upgrade to find, and each plane controls a bit differently and has distinct weapons, so the missions are also very replayable.

Dragon Quest VII - 3DS The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II - PS4 (played on PS5) Not much progress in DQ7, but I've been blazing through Trails of Cold Steel II the last week and a half or so. Really liking it, as I did the first one, and the older Trails games. As before, not one of the most visually stunning games. It was originally a PS3/Vita title, and wasn't cutting edge then, but just a great setting with an excellent story and characters. The 'Turbo Mode' is still a godsend, and the game does move on the slow side without it enabled. I'm glad I'm playing this release instead of the PS3/Vita one

Dragon Quest VII - 3DS (Still) The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - PS4 (Played on PS5) Yakuza 3 Remastered - PS4 (Played on PS5)
Finished Cold Steel II and moved right on to III, but I figured I'd mix it up and start Yakuza 3 as well. 3-5 are kind of a bare bones remaster, unlike the Kiwami games, but I'm still having fun with Okinawan orphanage management.

Dragon Quest VII- 3DS (Still) The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - PS4 (played on PS5) Yakuza 3 Remastered - PS4 (Played on PS5) Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5) Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PS5)
I'm on vacation at the moment, and borrowed Miles Morales and Sackboy from a friend to play. Both fun so far. Sackboy is just 3D LittleBigPlanet, so quite enjoyable, and Miles Morales has all the fun of the previous game, zipping around the city, etc.

One of my brothers found Sim City for the SNES in his attic, so he gave it to me, since he doesn't have a Super Nintendo. For the first time in my life, I used the cheat to max out on cash. The game is still incredibly fun, but it suffers from the issue of being unique at the time. It was the first sim game that became popular, yet it didn't truly have an ending. It was fun playing it for an hour, but I lost interest once you really couldn't do anything once your city was full. I suppose you could let Bowser destroy it and start over again, but that was novel in the early 90s. It still was cool to jump in the time machine and go back 30 years though.

I had the same experience with the game, one hour gameplay that is a lot of fun. A lot of times that's all a game needs to do for you to love it. That's definitely a great addition to any SNES collection. Nice for you to find it.

Agreed with SimCity. It was fantastic for its time, but is mostly good for a bit of novelty these days.
Great relaxing soundtrack though.

Dragon Quest VII on the 3DS (still plugging along) Yakuza 4 Remastered for the PS4 (on the PS5) Ys: The Oath in Felghana on the PC
Yakuza 4 Remastered definitely feels like a step up from Yakuza 3 Remastered. I'm liking the new protagonists so far.
Felghana is a remake of Ys III, and has been so far. It feels very close to Ys: Origin, which I really enjoyed.

Felghana is a remake of Ys III, and has been so far. It feels very close to Ys: Origin, which I really enjoyed. Felghana is my favourite and what got me into the series (though I still haven't played 7-8-Celceta). Besides the really good and fast controls, the setting and story are just full of personality, like a very upbeat 90s anime. After it, you should also play The Ark of Napishtim, which was the first Ys in Felghana/Origin's style.

Cervantes I'll definitely get to Napishtim eventually. I'm sort of playing them in numbered order (usually defaulting to the most recent remake) rather than in release order, or story order (since the jump around in Adol's life), so I imagine there will be a bit of bouncing back and forth in gameplay refinements. I realize Ys is pretty continuity-light after the first one, so I could play them in release order without losing much, but that's just one of my quirks. Likely play order after Felghana is probably going to be: Memories of Celceta (either on PS4 or Windows, depending on where it is on sale at the time) --------- Possibly will play Ys IV: Dawn of Ys (PC-Engine) on emulator as well. Celceta is the 'official' Ys IV in canon, but Joe over at Game Sack never spares an opportunity to proclaim this to be the best version of Ys IV. --------- Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand (Super Famicom) on emulator. There was a PS2 remake, but no English patch that I can find. --------- Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim, probably on PC. --------- Ys SEVEN, probably on PC --------- Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, probably on PS4. --------- Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, probably on PS4. I use a Windows laptop for gaming, so I tend to only play older games on PC. (Felghana is running smooth as butter though ). As such, for the more modern games, I'll probably switch over to the PS4 versions. I did play Ys Origin on my Vita with a fan-patch for HD textures. It looked pretty nice, but crashed once or twice towards the end, and I ended up disabling the patch to finish. I later found that the micro SD card adapter I was using for my Vita was not allowing the patch to be read at full speed. I've since replaced it. It'll probably take me years to catch up though, since I'm not playing them back to back.
