I'm sorry to say, dschult3, but I think that as of chapter 5, I might be packing it in on Xenoblade Chronicles X. Even engaging 2-3 level-appropriate enemies at a time seems to be slicing me to shreds, let alone trying to sneak past things 10 levels higher in order to reach targets. Shadowrunner seems to buy a bit of time, but I'm still getting cut to ribbons with alarming regularity, and not really having any fun.

There's so much more to do. All I can say is you probably need to do more of the city side quests or explore another area in order to level up or get another side character. Upgrading the weapons shop is a big part of the game too. Years ago, I ignored the NLA, because I absolutely loved the exploration part of the game. That was a bit of a mistake. Are you on the mission where you have to destroy the turrets? I remember people getting stuck on that, since it was more of a stealth mission. I remember using Shadowrunner and climbing a bunch of walls in order not to be seen. I understand if you want to move on, though. Sometimes walking away from a game, just to return to it later may make the difference.

Yup, it's the turrets.
I feel like I have been upgrading the weapon shop, but I still can't buy any of the things I've unlocked, becase there's a level requirement on equipment. I think one of the problems is that I don't really enjoy tooling around NLA very much either. It's a pretty sparsely populated place, so there's a lot of wandering before I see a question mark.

Since I finished the book, I decided to fire up Y's VIII. My last save in June of 2019. Time moves too quickly.

It has to be started from the last save of the previous game. I'm playing in hard mode, so I don't breeze through it. It's always fun to relearn a game you love, but haven't played in years.

I'm almost done with Final Fantasy XIII, I'm only missing a final superboss/mission. The battle system is addictive, especially in the post game, as later enemies require a lot of strategy even for a fully leveled up party, so it holds up even after the main campaign is finished.
One thing to add to my previous comment: there's a point in the game that the characters reach an open field and its filled with sidequests. I think it was around 30 hours of gameplay. While it was fun to finally be free to explore, this area is still restrictive and there's not much to actually do. It's very similar to Gaur Plain in Xenoblade Chronicles, in the sense that you have a huge area full of enemies, but the only thing to do is really run around and fight. There are no villages or other characters to interact with; at best, there are a few places in which you may unlock a small cutscene. The sidequests aren't even that, they are just very simple killing missions: there are these statues all over the place and talking to them marks a place on your map in which there's an enemy to kill. It's fun, but a bit disappointing, as I've heard many people say that at this point the game opens up and have sidequests, when it's really just a big field to kill enemies. I mean, when I think of sidequests in RPGs I think of something like finding Wutai in FF7, which is a completely optional place in which you have extra story and characters - besides very few brief cutscenes, you won't get any meaningful story from exploring this area in FF13. It's still worth exploring it because the combat is engaging, but don't go in expecting that there'll be a lot of interesting sidequests; this area is also where all the post game happens, so you go can go back to it after the final boss.
After finishing FF XIII and before FF XIII-2, I think I'll replay Albert Odyssey: The Legend of Eldean, on the Saturn. The last time I played it was over 20 years ago and it was, at the time, my favorite game.

That's an good comparison to the Gaur Plain in Xenoblade, Cervantes.

Imperial Khador - That was immediatelly what came to my mind when I saw it. When some reviews said that the game opens up in that area, I thought it was in the sense that FF7 opens up when you get out of Midgar and reach the open world; instead, it was a nice, huge area with more enemies, items to find and very light exploration. I've just beaten the final mission/superboss, but I don't think I'll go for 100% achievements, as the final ones are just time sinkers (grinding for money to upgrade some items and redoing many missions to get 5-star in all of them).

Yeah, I'm really loving Y's VIII again. I need to get this soundtrack. For those of you who have played IX, is the soundtrack as good?

I've gone ahead and started too many games at once Trinity Trigger - PS5 The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails - PS4 (played on PS5) Tales of Arise - PS5 Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name - PS5 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle - Switch (almost done this one) Played the most of Trinity Trigger so far, but still just a few hours in. It's pretty much as advertised. Very Mana-inspired, but Secret of Mana in particular. Right down to the green treasure chests. A lower budget game, but nice character art, and elevated by some excellent voice work in the localization. For Man fans, it's an easy recommendation, with the minor frustration that multiplayer is not unlocked until your third character joins, which isn't until...I think the end of the 3rd or 4th dungeon. Like a Dragon Gaiden has been fun so far, but I'm still in chapter 1. Grabbed this one while it was 30% off on PSN. Always fun to kick around as Kiryu again. Apparently this was originally planned as DLC for Yakuza 7, but got big enough to justify it being its own game. It is apparently only about as long as Kiwami 1, so on the short side for a Yakuza game. But even when not on sale, it wasn't sold at full price, and that is appreciated. It seems to cover the background of what Kiryu was up to after Yakuza 6, through his appearance in 7, and up to a certain point before the new Infinite Wealth, though it also includes an Infinite Wealth demo with him that apparently a section not actually _in_ Infinite Wealth. My friend played through this recently, and mentioned some of the characters from the Judgment subseries make appearances, which I'm looking forward to.

Pimpjira - Don't forget to check the tutorial in Panzer Dragoon Orta. This one is much more complex than previous entries due to the addition of two moves: accelerating/decelerating and changing the dragon's form on the fly. It seems hard at first, but once you get used to every move and dragon form, it's a blast to play.

The King Of Fightes XIII Global Match on PS4. I'm so glad it has been ported.
It is now ranking as my favorite game of all time. It used to be #6, but I have come to the realization that it brings me so much joy that now it is number 1 for me.
