Anyone have any weird reasons for disliking a game or system? Nintendo made some of the greatest consoles of all time, but they did a lot of stuff to irritate me. - I always had a love/hate relationship with the Super NES and I never cared for some of the music and sound effects (specifically Super Mario World). I think I'm the only person in the world that can't stand Super Mario World sound effects and music but it drives me up the wall. Especially that Yoshi sound!*
- I saw the GBA as the successor to the SNES, but the fact that they dragged their heels on a better, backlit screen killed my enthusiasm for the portable console. I didn't find out until several years later they made a backlit clamshell version. That and their NES classics line was just straight up nickel & diming people. You can't put the first 2 Zeldas on one GBA cart? Pfft. I got the Phantasy Star collection (and squinted to play it at weird angles).
- Didn't want to have anything to do with Playstation at first because it was a dumb name, and the d pad looked like you couldn't make a precise movements. That and early 3D looked terrible. To be fair, Phillips, Panasonic and a few other major electronics companies also struck out trying to break into video games a few years earlier!
*if anybody knows of a good SMW romhack that replaces the music and sound with something a little better, like from SMB3, that'd be pretty cool.

And my Gameboy was probably the least used system I had. After the Christmas break, I quickly realized my mom would kill me if someone at school stole it from me.
I played Tetris a lot, though. So I suppose in the end it was worth it. I'm sorry, Gameboy. I can't stay mad at you my little blurry green friend.

That's unheard of. But considering the population of our forum, and knowing we have you disliking that soundtrack, it is likely that there are many people that feel the same way. Which is mind blowing to be honest, but I believe it.
An unpopular opinion I have is that I don't have the patience for turn based RPGs like the Pokémon games. I never understood the appeal of that style of combat, even though I have wanted to get it.
The other unpopular opinion I have is that it is extremely rare for me to like stealth combat in games, which is why I never liked something like Deus Ex. For me combat should be all about going Commando, Frenzy, or Berzerk. Otherwise it loses the fun.
And I consider that an unpopular opinion because I see those styles of combat (turn based, and stealth) as popular in the gaming community.

I really wanted to. I guess it's just something you have to play at a certain age.

Another reason the SNES irks me, even though I respect its greatness: the terrible North American redesign with the purple scheme.

That's actually quite a common opinion I hear from time to time, many people think it looks ugly. But because I love it so much, I am bias, and I find it very good looking. So I'm the opposite in that regard, and I don't like the European and Japanese versions. They look like toys to me, while the American version looks more mature. But in this instance I feel I am in the minority. Many people do not like the American design.

Apparently they did this because in North America, kids would rest their soft drinks on their NES while sitting on the carpet 3 feet from the TV (and then spill them). The kids would deny any knowledge of why their NES stopped working, then angry fathers would then call up the Nintendo hotline, or go down to their local department store and rant about Pearl Harbor for 2 hours. NoA soon figured out the cause of the 'defective' units and made it so angular as to make a kid not want to put his Pepsi on their Super Nintendo (a God given right).

I never heard of that. That's interesting. I always thought they just wanted to give the console a more mature look because going from the NES to the Super Famicom sure would look like they were going for a younger audience.

I don't think i have a popular opinion when it comes to games lol. But here are some anyway.
I like Sonic R better than most Mario Karts.
I think all the consoles since and including the Ps4 suck.
Sonic Adventure games are better than Mario 64 imo
I think Silent Hill 2 has aged pretty bad and feels like a walking simulator. Which is weird because Silent hill 1 is still awesome.
I think DMC 2 is better than the first game.
Resident Evil 4 (Although a great game) is incredibly overrated.
Blue Stinger is better than most resident Evil games.
Xenogears is boring and overrated AF.
And probably most of all I'm really not a fan of this specks generation of people who think sharper looking images are more important than gameplay. Like that fucko happy Console gamer as an example who declared the latest Forza game his favourite racing game of all time purely because of "LoOki HoW GoeewwwDD iT LeeooowwWWKKsSSss".

Bogard - Except for Blue Stinger and DMC 2 (I swear that I tried to like it more than once), I agree with everything else. Two things that stand out to me are the exaggerated love for Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil 4. SH2 felt clunky, slow and the story wasn't that well written or acted, I also thought the first one was far scarier and had a more interesting initial premise. RE4 was great, really great, but it's far from being the best game ever that some reviewers try to make of it. Some of its elements were even bad, like the constant QTEs and some fights in closed spaces, as the camera system didn't adapt well to those situations, so it's far from being a perfect game. I haven't played Xenogears enough to know about it, but that was my opinion on one of its spiritual successors, Xenoblade - nice story and setting, but very boring stretches of gameplay once you get past the first few hours.

Silent hill 2 was actually my favourite game of all time for a long time since its release. But going back to it now I could see how badly it has aged. It feels like a GTA game with all the missions taken out of it so all you can do is roam around streets, kill some pedestrians and nothing more. Feels very dull. But yet Silent Hill 1 and 3 have aged really well. Especially SH3. That game is a master piece.

I like how we always agreed in liking Silent Hill 3 the most. I also think it is the best in the series, and the series has many good releases already.

Is it unpopular to absolutely hate every fishing minigame ever included in action-adventure games (e.g. Zelda, Nier, Okami, Sonic Adventure)? They're always very repetitive (usually holding the stick to the opposite side that the fish is going, repeat ad nauseam) and heavily dependent on a random factor (you don't know which fish you're getting until after doing the minigame). I love getting 100% in action-adventure games, but if there's a fishing minigame that is a thing I'll usually left out. I was getting angry right now at Okami as I spent half an hour waiting for the random factor to give me a specific fish to no avail, so that's another game that I won't go for 100% just because of the fishing. I already got everything else, but I'm still missing around 17 fish and I can't imagine how many hours and a tired thumb it will take to get each of them. It's the randomness and the complete change in gameplay that kills these minigames to me. Fishing was the only part of Nier Automata that I never finished, and I absolutely love that game.
Seriously, if I created a game and it had any fishing element in it, I would allow the main character to throw a grenade in the water and be done with it. I'm afraid it might not really be an unpopular opinion, though...

I think I liked it in Far Cry 5... Far Cry was just the perfect series to introduce my idea of "Tired of fishing? Throw a grenade to win".
