Microsoft purchased Activision/Blizzard for ~$68.7 billion. I wonder if they got a discount due to the scandals going on there? Do we think Microsoft is going to do anything good with the company, or will it let it rot like the others they bought over the last decade? I think they're posturing themselves for the all digital market in the next generation, since they'll probably be the leader in online streaming. Microsoft purchased Activision/Blizzard.

It seems like Microsoft has no interest in doing anything good with these companies they purchase but the only reason they're buying up these companies and the rights to all the games that come with them is so other consoles don't get those game either.
It's as if they're saying "Hey if we're not getting any third party support, then we'll just buy up every company so you won't get any third party support".
Honestly it was shocking how far Sony left Microsoft in the amount of games and third party support they got with the Ps4 over the Xbone.

Insanity, it's the bigger fish eating the smaller fish. I was impressed when Activision bought Blizzard, but Microsoft seems to have so much more resources. It is a strong move from them, and I wonder what would be the implications of this considering all the stuff behind Activision.

I don't see how a monopoly can be a bad thing.

I doubt they will make Call Of Duty exclusive, or anything from Blizzard. Microsoft puts everything on PC and even puts things on Nintendo already.
Although maybe there will be exclusivity deals on PC, so if anything it may affect a bit Steam and the Epic storefront, although I don't know if they carry Activision games already.
Maybe nothing will happen, who knows, but the gaming industry has been on a low point since 2020, so maybe Activision had too many bills that were unpaid, maybe they were spending more than they were receiving from an unexpected change of revenue, and then Microsoft came to save.

Microsoft would lose out on a lot of money if they made CoD an exclusive. I'm willing to bet they will get first access on their systems, but the ports will just print money for them.
I don't think this is becoming a monopoly at all. Every time I hear about Microsoft gobbling up another company and letting the IPs stagnate, the lead artists and programmers stay for as long as they are contractually obligated, and then they move on to create their own studio. Through their experiences, they seem to only get better. Maybe the big M can do something about that and make it a positive thing.
As for a monopoly, that hasn't happened yet. In a few articles I have read, the top 3 video game companies in the world are now:
1. Tencent 2. Sony 3. Microsoft
The big guys are getting bigger, and I am a bit worried about an oligopoly. However, software is the future of gaming, not hardware. Ideas won't be locked up with the big three, and I still believe big studios can pop up with awesome new ideas.

Well, it looks like Sony just bought up Bungie for $3.6 billion. Many sources are saying that they aren't going to make their games exclusive to Sony. I wonder if Microsoft and Sony are diversifying their portfolios so they can have a constant income stream in order to fund their projects instead of attempting to control the market. Sony to buy ‘Destiny’-maker Bungie for $3.6 billion

It looks like Sony was basically forced to do that after that Microsoft purchase. Good thing for them they already had good relationships with Bungie.
What I didn't know is that Microsoft bought Activision to help them in a situation they already had internally involving some kind of sex scandal. Apparently Activision was in deep trouble and didn't see a way out, and this was the solution found.
Microsoft was already talking about buying it, so I guess it came at a good time for Activision. The thing is that the talent only stays for a certain period of time, and then they go out to do their own thing.
Howell with the current environment they may just stay and Microsoft may do an attractive deal for the talent pass the contract time they have.

I wonder if this deal will go through.
On another note, Atari bought the rights to Bubsby, and Sega bought the rights to Angry Birds. I really don't understand those acquisitions.

This deal won't affect me on it's own but not sure the precedent it sets will be good.

I don't think this is a good thing. I don't really think it will ruin anything except the companies they are taking over. Although, Blizzard has been focused on committing seppuku for a while. Activision has been close behind too. Why are you so worried?

And now they've shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks. I don't seem to understand why Microsoft does anything. At least try to sell the studios so their work can live on. I bet they want the IPs; however, this doesn't make any other business sense than that. Why buy up all these studios to produce 3 - 4 games a year and then shut down studios when your system desperately needs console exclusives?
