Balder You quoted my answer. Hilary seems ok, she came to a college right next to mine a few years ago for the faculty of political science, as an endorsement or something. And she got paid hundreds of thousands for it, too. Maybe you misunderstood what I asked. What I meant was: Who are you rooting/voting for?

And she got paid hundreds of thousands for it, too. Probably millions. Forgot to mention that, the college she was at was a top tier, big wig college!

What do you guys think of the electoral system? Is it really a democracy if the candidate that gets the most votes doesn't necessarily win?

It's seriously confusing. Doesn't look like much of a democracy to me. To be fair, Brazil isn't much of a democracy either, so who am I to say.

Usually the answer you get is that this is a republic, which doesn't explain anything about the electoral system to the misinformed crowd, or why media keeps claiming a democratic vote is in place.
I guess the patriotic ideologies are what ultimately makes us think of it more in terms of the United part than in terms of the individual States part.
I believe most people like to think of it as a single unity than a bunch of separate parts trying to work together despite its cultural differences.
Clearly Texas and California despite their territorial proximity are not the same in terms of culture, and the same goes for Alabama and Mississippi when compared to Massachusetts and Vermont, just to name a few.
I would prioritize NASA over Hollywood in terms of commonwealth, but we can't deny how Hollywood impacts social movements, and therefore it contains an important resource to lead the nation. The same can be said for tech produced in Silicon Valley and also the music of major Hollywood labels.
If you think about it, is it really fair for a specific culture with bigger numbers claim authority over a different culture that simply hasn't breed enough voters?
It may be a fair system after all.
One could claim the economy is the most important factor in terms of quality of life, and that by looking at individual results from different States we may conclude which approach is better.
Obviously quality of life does not depend solely on the economy, and even if it did, individual economies are fluid and have a lot of variables. You can't really measure something base on its current state alone. A glass of water could easy become jar of ice or a tank of vapor any second.
Then we also must not forget the different opinions in terms of the role of government when it comes to individual conduct and behaviour, in other words the difference in opinions for social issues, and to what extend can we really trust individuals to make personal decisions without affecting the common good.

Hey if you don't follow, that's not on me. Politics are very polarizing to discuss because it is a gamble, just like most financial policies are.

Well, I know my opinion on foreign policies is worth jackshit (Except maybe Trump because I'm supossedly going to pay for his wall or whatever), but I think both candidates are a waste of time. Hillary is corrupt as fuck and Trump is as idiotic as Bush was. Personally if I was in the USA I would pick one of the third options which seem a lot more reasonable.

Hey if you don't follow, that's not on me. Bruh, you were comparing NASA to Hollywood in terms of... vote value, or something? It's definitely on you. Well were you rooting for one of the earlier candidates? Actually, no.
