But Spirit Bomb , the drawn portraits in Fates look a lot better than most on Path of Radiance and Sacred Stones, not to mention games from the SNES era. On Sacred Stones, I honestly feel PoR is easier than that one... And the Tower of Valni is actually one of the worst pieces of side content, since you need it to unlock characters (including one of my favorite characters in the series ), but it's literally the last thing you are supposed to see in-game, so it's just a matter of misplaced content and rewards.

Fates lacks the finesse and vibrant color that made the pre-Awakening Fire Emblem characters stand out from an artistic perspective. From what I've seen, Fates' character drawings look very sharp and pale, and lack the large, expressive eyes that the pre-Awakening FE characters had. You seem like a resourceful guy. Please feel free to link us some of those Fates drawings to help expand the discussion.

Finished the Birthright campaign in Fates the other day, and posted some thoughts over in the Nintendo section (http://goo.gl/EkMivG).
3 chapters into Conquest (post story-split) and enjoying it so far.

I would like to give Radiant Dawn another play, just could get into that one for some reason. I'm hoping that gets a Nintendo Selects reprint because it's kinda pricey.
So far of the FE games I've played I would rank them:(not going to include Radiant Dawn because I didn't get very far)
Path of Radiance > Awakening > Fire Emblem = Sacred Stones > Shadow Dragon
The only one of those I didn't like much was Shadow Dragon.

Shadow Dragon was kind of an odd duck, since it was a remake of an earlier game. I'd gotten used to things from the GBA/GC/Wii games like...being able to rescue units with other units. Kind of interesting to see Fire Emblem stripped back to basics, but I think I'd have preferred they didn't do so.
Only sort of related, but I picked up Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE today (had some in-store points at a retailer that I traded in for a Visa Debit card, and used that to buy the game). Far more Megaten than Fire Emblem, but I'll certainly post some thoughts in the Nintendo section once I play it.

Yes, and also about Shadow Dragon. Those extra Gaiden chapters are unlocked in the stupidest way by killing off your characters. Games should reward for playing well, not like crap.

Little variation in skin complexion and sharp chins that end in a point. See what I mean when I say they lack refinement? Now Spider Shinobi, why do you think Fates' character designs look better than the pre-Awakening ones? You never specified why you think so.

The characters look cute. I should probably play this I just don't have a Nintendo.

You just came with an excuse in hopes that it makes it look like you're right.

spidershinobiI thought you already heard my opinion on this? I repeat, I love the pre-Awakening character designs because I feel they have more refinement and color than those of Awakening + onwards.
That is my argument and my opinion.

I think perhaps that he meant that you didn't really explain what you mean by 'refinement', aside from apparently 'chins that are not sharp'. Lack of varied skin tone is probably valid. There are usually one or two characters with darker skin and white hair, but otherwise they're generally pretty pale. Having played all the GBA Fire Emblems and onwards though, I don't think that's something new post-Awakening.
That said, I'm curious Maestro. Do you have any thoughts on the gameplay or stories of the Fire Emblem series? You usually pop in to FE-related threads to mention disliking the character designs, but I'm not actually sure if you've ever mentioned playing any of the games.

It's all relative really. I mean by definition, the Awakening-onward titles are more refined and elegant than the murky ones shown from pre-Awakening in the spoiler thread (they all look related due to similar facial features). On the contrary, people in the forum seem enamored with the designs so arguments can go either way. But as Imperial Khador said, is it even something worth feuding about? I mean, aren't the character designs in the original R/B/Y Pokemon games putrid and people still play them to this day?
