If you wanna get paid to not only store but also share unlimited videos on youtube for free you should at the very least be okay with perfectly reasonable rules set by those who are giving you that money.
Complaining that you're not allowed to say and do whatever you want while getting paid for the privilege of unlimited online video storage and sharing is spoiled beyond words and I have absolutely not a single shred of sympathy for those who do so.

Are you forgetting that a lot of the early YouTubers who made YT what it is today, swears and do other "inappropriate" thing in their content? Without them what's the point of YouTube? For a lot of them it's a job, not just a hobby. And if we were to stop paying things like Cinemassacre, CGR, Rooster Teeth and other channels that swear; they would stop making content.

I don't get why they couldn't just put some parenthal controls in there and be done with it. Armored Core Raven - I don't think it's reasonable when someone's video is flagged because that person has acne. Also, by their terms, you can't even discuss subjects like war, which means every monetized review/trailer/gameplay for games like Call of Duty should be put down on principle alone. As I said before, I also think "sexual humour" is a very broad term - if someone does a quick "that's what she said" joke (as Mark have done in one of his pinball reviews, as I remember) the video will be flagged? Even if there's nothing sexual about the video? Maybe they should've been much more specific about what they allow and, most importantly, don't let their terrible algorithms run wild. EDIT: I just thought about some short films I've watched on Youtube - some of those were for horror or action films that "depict violence". Are they limiting it only to real acts of violence or fictional ones are included too? See, that's just how much their wording in the TOS sucks. For creators, it means a lot of insecurity about the future of their videos. Hell, isn't Pewdiepie the most subscribed channel on youtube? And doesn't he swear on his videos? Youtube really wants to lose that audience?

Don't mock me. Sexual content is absolutely inappropriate for kids. You'd be surprised how sensitive a developing mind is to that sort of material.

It is a mutualistic relationship. Try turning it around. Creators are putting up good content for YouTube to make ad revenue on, without charging Google a cent. The rules are clearly unreasonable when perfectly normal, healthy discussions about our society are being flagged for having words like " suicide" in the title or description. For YouTube's sake, I hope Google listens to the complaints. If not, the creators will leave and so will the viewers. And they'll take the ad revenue with them, thanks.

I was hoping Google would go the whole nine yards and make jump-cuts illegal.

Guilion Screw you! I'm being serious. I was exposed to pornography too early on and it harmed me, possibly having permanent effects, and definitely twisted my perspective of the opposite sex, and sex itself. Now I realize that hardcore porn doesn't exist on Youtube, but you'd be surprised how suggestive some YT videos can be; I've seen several that are borderline pornography.

Honestly I think that's quite fair. There's WAY too much sex + nudity in the media these days and I don't think it's right for people to get paid for showing that kind of stuff to an audience that includes children. It's very immoral if you ask me. But violence, on the other hand, is not as bad for children as sexuality is; at least, that's how it was for me. So I do see some flaws with these new rules. It's a shame that kids these days have such easy access to violence and pornography via the internet. It really disturbs me. EDIT: Did I say "quite fair"? Sorry, I meant that in regards to the policy on sexual content only. Sorry for any confusion, I was really tired when I posted that. You should queue a list of sexually provocative Youtube videos (i.e. "hot strip tease," "MILF twerking," etc.) and let us know if Youtube's new system is working. I want a minute-by-minute analysis; leave no morsel unscrutinized! (titally joking btw, I know you're touchy when it comes to humor) Mark has been making fun of the whole ordeal over on the Classic Game Room Twitter laughing over how he moved to DailyMotion two years ago to a large backlash when he was really ahead of his time. I have mixed feelings on the debate. I mean on the one hand, it is Youtube's terms and service to do what they please with and as "employees," YT partners are prone to abide by their contracts. On the flip side, Youtube certainly permitted tons of behavior not condoned in these service terms throughout their decade-long monopoly on the video sharing market. This allowance perpetuates the idea that it's not only okay to adopt similar practices but actually encourages it as a means of gaining momentum as a small channel.

Mark has been making fun of the whole ordeal over on the Classic Game Room Twitter laughing over how he moved to DailyMotion two years ago to a large backlash when he was really ahead of his time. I think it's safe to say that just about everyone here followed him to DailyMotion at the time, though. Or we wouldn't be here. I have mixed feelings on the debate. I mean on the one hand, it is Youtube's terms and service to do what they please with and as "employees," YT partners are prone to abide by their contracts. If you don't like a contract, you can (and should) quit. Only time can tell just how strictly Google will enforce these terms. Imagine all of the music videos that would get flagged under these rules...

Late to the conversation, but here are my thoughts: Call me paranoid, but I think this is an attempt by Youtube('s handlers: the corporations) to wrangle more control of what people post, in the name of being "advertiser friendly". What tends to have sex and violence? Footage from movies and games, including footage from reviews. Remember when Sega infamously flagged all the Shining Force videos? Inappropiate language/harassment/legit criticism can be relative, depending on how thick-skinned the recipient of it is. Does the term "safe space" mean anything to you? Controversial/politics: Clearly shutting down dissent. Same for game/movie reviews. Promotion of drugs: If it's clearly ILLEGAL and HARMFUL substances, then sure! it's clearly an attempt at internet censorship. It must be opposed! But let's just remember: YT stopped being the people's thing long ago. This big vid from 2009: ADDITIONAL: All this reminds of something that PM K. Rudd and his Communications Minister Steven Conroy tried to pull nearly ten years ago. Luckily, it failed.
