Haha, I've been waiting for this to be discussed. I remember playing it with my neighbor and we had so much fun. A great game.

I had that game. I would make famous Sports Illustrated models I had a crush for and then virtually bang them all as the game would let you. I never felt so nerd in my life.
I would say the biggest fun you can have with these games is building houses. You can take everything else out of the game and it would still be cool to just build whatever you can come up with what they give you.

I played the first two Sims games. I remember locking a Sim in a room with all walls and no doors or windows and watch them live in their filth. My little brother who was like 3 or 4 saw the grim reaper in one of the Sims games and freaked the fuck out lol.

I had the PS2 version. If I remember right, it was the first console Sims game that had you directly controlling your Sim (as opposed to the point/click mouse controls on PC). It was an improvement, imo.

I liked it, I used to play it A LOT back in its hayday. However I have pretty much all the expansions and they are a mixed bag, Pets is excellent but Open for Business and University are fucking tiresome.
I would also like to thank EA personally for killing the mod scene for this game after they realized the third game was selling poorly because of it. Truly, thank you guys.

This was the game that had the DLC back in the day, or "expansion packs" if you will. It suited EA pretty good back then and it they have implemented that strategy in all their new games.

I don't know why The Sims 4 wasn't ported to consoles. I imagine that one has nicer construction elements than 3. I never played it because I don't own a PC that could run it.

I don't think that's a fair comparisson, the most common complaint that I hear about DLC it's that the content is usually content that should've been added to the game in the first place. Although it's true that with EA it all started with The Sims 2 (With Night Life, Seasons and most of the accesories packs originally being part of the game and later sold sepparetely) that wasn't the original plan. You see, according to ex-maxis employees a little before the game was released there was an office fire at EA where most of the progress in the game was lost and it all had to be remade from scratch with a new engine (The original engine was the same as the one used in The Sims Bustin' out) and whatever could be salvaged from backups in personal hard drives. This effectively set the game behind development 5 years as it was set to release barely a year after the incident happened. It was later decided that the missing content would be sold as expansion packs but even then the amount of content in the vanilla game is stagering, no other game in the series ever managed to catch up to 2 in its vanilla state making it a pretty complete game without the expansion packs in my opinion.

I had it on PC and also played it on PS2 back in the day as my girlfriend at the time had it on PS2.
It was okay for designing basic houses and I somewhat enjoyed that aspect of it, but I ultimately felt it was far too limited with the options for house design, interior design and character customization. It was also very poorly optimized and never ran well on either of the two formats I played it on, didn't seem to matter how strong of a gaming PC it was, Sims 2 still always chugged along despite being very graphically low quality and ugly looking overall.
I did not enjoy the social simulation aspect at all and felt it was a hinderance between me and the fun I could get out of the game, with cheats it became a little bit better but not enough that I truly enjoyed it. The worst part was that if I moved in people into a house and then decided to move them somewhere else, all the interior went with the people and suddenly I had to refill and redesign all of the inside of the house again, that I had so neatly put together just right spending hours on, and that's what finally pushed me over the edge to uninstall and get rid of the game once and for all.
I've never played it or any other Sims game again ever since.

Hmmmm... Another game I have never played. I wonder if it's time to begin pulling pseudo intellectual remarks about it so it looks like I'm super smart.
