I've seen quite a few Sonic games online that look very good. They just have a lot of glitches, Sonic 2006 style. However I still haven't tried anything unofficial myself.

I always wanted 3D Sonic do be more momentum-based and have large, multi path levels just like the genesis games. While I love the fact that this game is going for that same kind of mentality, it is extremely hard to pull of right (especially for creating stages).
You can see here what I'm talking about. The stage is nice and open, but it feels empty as a result and there's not a whole lot of direction to it. It also can use some more sprucing up in the graphics department. Not that the graphics are bad at all, but it needs some more unique assets to keep everything from looking exactly the same.
In case if you guys couldn't notice I'm just a tiny bit enthusiastic about the idea of the genesis games being properly adapted to 3d, but it's just such a monumental task. Probably even too monumental for Sega else they would've made such a game by now.
Still, it's a really amazing effort and I love the physics.

I played the demo a bit right now and it does play very well. I also haven't found any glitches. The graphics, physics and, in general, the way Sonic controls are all pretty spot on, and I can definitely see myself enjoying a full game like this. On the control side, the only negative thing I noticed was the camera: it doesn't follow Sonic around, so you have to keep adjusting it. Outside that, everything was perfectly fine. You can see here what I'm talking about. The stage is nice and open, but it feels empty as a result and there's not a whole lot of direction to it. This is the main problem, though. As a "concept area", the Green Hill they designed is pretty good for showing what their engine is capable of and what we can expect from the game; as a level, it's terrible. They'll either have to separate more the different paths or find a way to direct you to the level objectives. As it is now, I was just randomly going around, completely directionless. But I do understand it's just a concept area and the levels themselves might be very different. Anyway, I'm surprised it works so well. It reminds me of the 3D area in Sonic Jam, pretty much the only time Sega tried to put Sonic in an open map with objectives. Distributing a few objectives throughout the map might be a good way to make the open levels work, as it does in Sonic Jam.

I actually had no idea it was only a concept area, I just assumed it was a stage that was a work in progress.

That big area should be a hub level, like Hyrule Field in Ocarina of Time.
