Why hasn't anyone made this thread yet? I just said that I would look down on anyone posting spoilers in non-star wars threads (as people on the internet loved to do last year, but hasn't done it this year). Anyways, if you haven't seen it please don't read any further as this thread will have spoilers.
Thoughts: A great movie, but didn't feel like a legendary Star Wars movie to me. The main characters (Jyn and Cassie iirc) felt very flat and wasn't interesting. I've had more attachment to cheesy action-film characters than to these. The other characters were great on the other hand (especially the droid, who had his own type of comic relief that we haven't seen done before in a SW movie). The action and fan service is top notch. Action scenes feel like a war movie (but not particularly gritty). Small easter eggs here and there enhances the experience. Darth Vader is more awesome that I had hoped, but had barely any screen time (he shouldn't have been overused, but it's just way too short). The bad guy was great (the conflict between him and Tarkin showed us that there are several sides to the Empire). The story was also great, but would have been much better with better main characters.
I was a little bit disappointment that they didn't do more but I'd give this one 8/10. A great movie, but not a fantastic SW movie. I would range the SW movies like this: IV, V, VI, VII, III, RO, II, I.

A fuck it, after thinking some more I have to give it 7.5/10. The way they killed Krennick was laughably bad, and Donnie Yen's sidekick was simply a deus ex machina character.

DEUS VULT!I just didn't want a re-run of last years internet spoilers. I didn't get spoiled last year since I attended the premiere and EU got it first. However, I saw spoilers all over the internet the day after. This year people just didn't give a shit about spoiling anything. So I guess I over-prepared.

How can there be spoilers? We already know what happens in the next movie.

I liked the girl. Her character is actually very beliveable, she acts like some older ladies act when they are stubborn to defend something they believe in. It didn't make sense at first, but when you think about it, everyone has to be young at some point, she just didn't get a chance to grow old. She is very sexy too.
I also liked the hyperspace kool-aid scenes because now I know how that feels thanks to the X-Wing VR Mission in Star Wars Battlefront. I had to buy the game just for that, but good thing it was on sale before it came out. It was totally worth it.
Driving a X-Wing into hyperspace and killing a bunch of tie fighters is one of the coolest things you can do in VR. I make everyone that visits to experience it because it is that cool.
Those guys that were about to go into hyperspace but crashed before into the bigger ship that was just coming from it was a bit too much, but hilarious nevertheless.
That Chirrut Imwe guy that was praying the force constantly made a lot of sense too as he represents well how advance spiritual people are before they for real shift from their faith paradigms, right before they reach the awaken level. I think he crossed it right before he died, but it was too late at that point, it didn't matter anymore because he managed to do what he believed was his purpose. In fact they hammered that message over and over again with almost every character, which is a great message that makes perfect sense with the Star Wars universe.
The Darth Vader scene was very cool indeed. It makes you want more.
Also it is cool to read the intro letters at the beginning of A New Hope after the movie. One can finally make a mental picture of what all that entailed.

The ending of this film was great. I really can't say the same for the rest of it, though.
I'm a massive Star Wars fan and I'm glad I saw this movie, even glad that stuff like this is being made, but this isn't going to be a movie I will watch over and over like I do with the Saga films.
The first half of the movie felt like filler. I didn't feel connected to Jyn's father or their relationship whatsoever. The scene where Andor shoots the one-armed guy was a waste of time. I get why it's there, but ultimately it doesn't matter at all.
There were times where it felt like nothing was happening or progressing. My cousin literally fell asleep in his seat.
The Tarkin CGI puppet was a little jarring. It's cool that it looks as good as it does, but considering that they recast Mon Mothma,I think it would have been alright to just use the new actor's performance.
The sets, props, etc - all fantastic. It looks like Star Wars.
That final Darth Vader scene - beyond amazing. That's the moment I will rewatch the film for.
I will rate 7/10. If I weren't a die-hard Star Wars fan, it'd get a 6.

I pretty much agree with you Dan E. Kool that Darth Vader scene is better than the rest of the movie.

Im trying to figure out who the jedi character is when one of the people in the movie says i'll contact my jedi friend, I was with them during the clone wars but she has been in hiding. I dont recall ever seeing that character show up. Were they refering to someone else in the movie? Were they refering to someone who was meant to show up in the movie but didn't? I dont get it.

Basically, what I want is a Darth Vader movie. So long as James Earl Jones is still around to voice him.

I saw it with a few friends last week and quite enjoyed it. Solid story, and I like that it was filmed/told in a different format to the other movies. That gives me some hope that the anthology films will be able to play around with the format and setting a bit. Likely seeing it with my father and different friend later in January as well and looking forward to the re-watch.
@dan.E.Kool I think I would enjoy a Vader movie set just after episode III, as he basically just adjusting to his first days as Vader, but an anthology movie could be good too. I've heard the new Darth Vader comic has been received very well. Maybe something could be adapted from there.
I'm not sure he'd work as a protagonist for a whole film though. Vader always seemed to work best when he was used sparingly. Maybe 3 short Vader stories in an anthology. similar to what they're apparently doing with the young Han Solo film.

Basically, what I want is a Darth Vader movie. So long as James Earl Jones is still around to voice him. They could use another guy to voice Vader if JEJ dies before such a movie since there are probably some people who could do a pretty similar job, but JEJ would still be the best.
