I regret to say I sadly have the first one for Xbox, and from what I remember it was absolutely terrible, I tried to play through one battle but wow it was genuinely unplayable. Bla bla bla. Your reviews are unplayable. Just a complete mess.

But it's just that you get so much more enjoyment out of gaming when you go into games with a positive mind.

Armored Core Raven likes the Panzer Dragoon games. That alone makes him a good guy in my book. Seriously though, I've been always under the impression that some Star Wars games are good (the Battlefront series included), but I've always looked at them all as, at best, really good tie-ins - none of them seems to be among the best in its genre, and are mostly appreciated for people who are already fans of Star Wars. Except, maybe, for KOTOR, which I haven't played and belong to a genre I don't like anyway (the BioWare kind of wRPG). My point is: liking them or not is a matter of personal preference, as with anything, but they're hardly cornerstones of great design. As I haven't played the Battlefront series, I must ask: there's something that makes Battlefront really good in comparison to other multiplayer shooters from its time? I'm legitimately curious. I've heard the transition between space and land battles is good, but I don't know much besides that.

I retract my vote until I have played the first game again, until that happens my memory of it being a shitty game that let me down immensely because I had hopes that it would be good remains. Seeing as other Star Wars games at the time were so good overall, despite being in the same times of the prequel movies and all that, even if I personally enjoy The Phantom Menace, the games that came out around the same time were often pretty good with examples like the Rogue Squadron games on GameCube, the Pod Racing sequel and Starfighter games on PS2 and KotOR games on Xbox, all of which I enjoyed, some more than others, but I wouldn't call any of them bad games.
I won't do it now though as I'm too busy enjoying my new Vita games.

You're the guy who thinks Thunderdome is the best Mad Max movie after all.

It's funny that this topic came up right as I started getting into the Moviebattles 2 mod for Jedi Academy. I loved Battlefront 2 when I had it on the PS2 but I still have yet to get it on the PC, I hear modders have done some crazy shit to it. Anyways, I think Battlefront 2 has some really well designed maps and I like how each class feels useful in it's own way. I also played a little bit of Battlefront 1 when I was a kid too but I don't remember many specifics of it. If I had one complaint it would be the graphics. They aren't exactly bad but for me they always felt a little too fuzzy/blurry. I'm also not a big fan of any noticeable bloom effects in a 6th console gen game. BalderI-I kind of like the Phantom Menace t-too.

The Phantom Menace will always be the worst, but it doesn't mean it's bad. Despite all its flaws it still has amazing cinematography, the podrace is entertaining and the lightsaber battle is quite good. And btw, Battlefront 2 has some amazing mods on PC. It's one of the two PC games I play (the other being Civilization V).

Armored Core RavenI'll give you this: the graphics for these games wasn't great, even for it's time, just as you said. But they're almost 15 year old games now, so it really doesn't matter anymore. I think that most of us play games older than that, with lower resolution visuals, and don't complain. The single-player campaign in the first game wasn't nearly as good as in the second game. If you get the chance, definitely get the second game for the 501st campaign. It's really good. I can see the games getting a 4, maybe a 3 if you're not a Star Wars fan and hate fun, but I gave 'em a 5 for all of the amazing multiplayer sessions I had with my friends with these games.

The first two are outstanding multiplayer games, some of the best ever in fact. The single player "campaigns" of both games were a complete waste of time but instant action and (preferably) playing with friends is pure bliss. Although I prefer the second game merely for the inclusion of playable heroes & villains, as well as those awesome hunt gamemodes which let you play as jawas and wampas among other characters, the first game had WAY better levels and (surprisingly) better graphics as well.
I love both games, and they still hold up beautifully largely thanks to the local multiplayer options (splitscreen AND LAN support on consoles!), although I do wish 2 had been more customizible by allowing us to pit any race against another on any stage (heroes vs wampas? How cool would that have been?).

I just want to state that this is one of THE best offline multiplayer games of all time. Especially on the Xbox since it has 4 player split-screen even in the campaign (Halo, which is the best multiplayer game ever, hasn't even got this feature). You can also systemlink with up to 16 people and play together. That's just amazing! And I'm sure Spirit Bomb would cream his pants over this .
