Most of them aren't new per se but a select few post-humous Genesis titles are slated for a reprint thanks to Super Fighter Team, the company that brought them out of Taiwan in the first place. Unfortunately, most of them are obscure and a lot of reviews have been unkind to them. However, finding these games on ebay and the like has cost quite a fee as far as I've seen due to a low print run. Take a look for yourselves at some of the titles most notably "Beggar Prince," "Legend of Wukong" and "Star Oddyssey" over at the Super Fighter Team website (they published the games stateside initially back in 2006) and let me know if you think 60 is a modest price to pay for a new and sealed Genesis release of their caliber in 2016. www.superfighter.com/

Is it just me or is 60 bucks a little expensive for a retro game these days. You can have any big game that comes out this year for the same price. It's one of the things that I like about retro games, it's easy to get into because it's cheap.

It depends. Look at Watermelon Games: www.magicalgamefactory.com/These are brand new games, sold as cartridges in actualy boxes with actual manuals. I think that's definitely worth 60 bucks. Project Y has me super excited, btw. dem chip tunes, doh. I'd pay a lot more than 60 for that, trust.

Dang, that ProjectY montage is fire! Love me some chip.
On first impression, 60 sounds like a lot but there are several things to consider. I can only imagine how much it costs to program a game for a now close to 30 year old console. This includes rights to using the same clamshells and manuals with the Genesis logo and cartridges for the Sega.
Then consider you're getting a brand new shrink wrapped game for the Genesis/Mega Drive. If you try to go and buy a shrink wrap game for that console from its release time, you'd be lucky to get anything under 100. I've never even opened a brand new Sega Genesis game, ever! Now consider that a lot of these games are sizable RPGs that have been bug tested all the way through. At the end of the day, how much profit do you think they really see for the work invested, even if it is just the publisher? I don't know the exact going-ons between developer and publisher but I imagine the publisher has to buy rights to print the game.
Even though the instances I mentioned retailed around $45.00 in 2006, take a look at Beggar Prince, Star Odyssey or Legend of Wukong on ebay. I don't collect for value but because I am interested in the titles, I will buy them because I believe that publishing games for the Mega Drive is a good cause and I would like to see the practice continued in the future. I just hope the games are good!

Mark did a review of a RPG from the team behind Project Y:

User and friend bawesomeburf reviewed the recently released Dreamcast port of it from a different perspective: The flaws expressed in his review are some of my fears for the other Genesis RPGs i.e. no clarity and needless difficulty. The best instance I've seen so far of a post-mortem console release has to be Sturmwind, so far, I haven't seen much else and I just want Legend of Wukong to be awesome.

Maybe burf just forget to try it on a Nomad? Still, there aren't many teams making games for the Genesis any more, and Pier Solar looks and sounds amazing. If you have the means and you'd like the team to have the chance to make more games in the future, you gotta support them when you can. Just my 0.02
