I was at a bowling alley today, and they had a small arcade there. The newest game was Terminator Salvation, so that will explain how old the games were. Time Crisis 3 and Jurassic Park III were there as well. What had me thinking was their duel set of motorcycle games called Raw Thrills - The Fast & Furious: Super Bikes. It was rebooting, and I caught it starting up in Windows XP. Is that the norm for arcade games made in the current century, or was this some sort of hack? I know a bit about old arcade games, and everything was on the ROM. I don't remember arcades running off of popular operating systems.

I've just looked into it and it seems a lot of arcade boards used custom versions of Windows since the 2000s, probably like the Dreamcast used a custom version of Windows CE. One example of WinXP machine is the Taito Type X, from 2004. |
