Since the reason we're here is because we are all fans of CGR, I thought it would be nice to have a thread just to discuss the latest CGR reviews. Maybe this could be fixed?
So, let me begin: I am glad that Mark reviewed Top Gun. Why? Because since the AVGN episode years ago, that game has been getting more shit than it deserves. When I was a kid, I thought the game was good (it was not exactly one of the best ones I had, but I never saw it as terrible). One of my favourite things was, as Mark pointed out, the music: I turned on my NES just to listen to that kickass opening theme. Also, the landing sequence isn't hard at all if you know what to do: you just need to keep your speed/altitude close to the numbers indicated right at the center of the screen (200/288). Yep: you can just ignore the crazy instructions.
As I wasn't so interested in getting the high scores, I only played well the first mission (trying to take every enemy down so I could get extra lives), and then played like a coward, usually going as high as I could. When your plane is high, you just have to deal with a few enemy planes; with you go low, you have to deal with ships/bases, and they shoot 3 missiles simultaneously that are almost impossible to deal with. Also, you have to remember to keep a few missiles to the bosses, as they take a ton of damage to go down. The last one was a nightmare.
All in all, an ok game that has been more reviled than it deserves.

So, Mark is really in a Top Gun mood! He just reviewed the PS1 one, Fire at Will. I find it really funny how they were trying to recreate the movie scenes with terrible actors and no scenery at all. The game itself looks ok, I guess, but it's definitely no Ace Combat. Also, I do agree with Mark on 90s FMV cutscenes: I legitimately like them (I think Ghen War was my first game that extensively used them, but my favourite is Shinobi Legions).

A good thread concept Cerv, it's kind of like a tribute to the user community reviews every time CGR put out a new review.
The NES Top Gun review seemed very Mark which is always a good thing. You can tell it's a game he grew up with and enjoyed playing so that made for a nice review. I also enjoyed the PS1 version review with the on-screen actors which is not something we see frequently. Speaking of which, wasn't it the anniversary of Top Gun recently?
All hail U.S.S. Truxtun!

teddykongcountry - Yeah mate, I thought we needed a thread like this. By the way, I forgot to mention Mark's dance moves. It reminded me of the dance in Tear for Fears' Mad World clip:

I have been lagging behind in videos because of beginning of the year trips, so the latest video I have watched was the top 2015 show, but Mark is great, like, he isn't even talking about the top 10 games, he's just there drinking his beer and that somehow is so entertaining. Oh! And Truxton.

So, VR Sports Powerboat Racing. Man, some generic racers in the PS1 could get absolutely terrible, couldn't they? What bothered me the most in some of these racers was how low the camera angle was put sometimes. I mean, more than half of the screen is occupied by the background sky! Maybe it was a way to show less polygons on screen?
Well, at least Mark found a way to mention Van Damme.

Ugh VR Sports Powerboat Racing looks like a boring ass game. But on another topic; why did the US get standard Jewel cases for their PS1 games while Europe got those fat custom cases. They break so damn easily and is unreplacable because it isn't a standard. That's why half of all EU PS1 games have cracked covers.

Balder - The jewel cases (and the colourful manual that comes with them) are the main reason why I always prefer getting the japanese version of a Saturn game when possible, if the game has no language barrier. I don't know who the hell had this idea that people would prefer to see their games coming in large boxes that take too much space and break very easily.

Cervantes ah yes the US Saturn cases are garbage as well. I only have import Saturn games except for Nights Into Dreams (that came in a jewel case for some reason). I think they look cool, but the fact that they are irreplacable bugs me.

We got those long boxes at first, and it's neat to have one or two around but I'm glad they switched over. I hate those Saturn boxes, wish they switched to jewel cases as well.

Yeah I was wondering if it is valid to just buy a bunch of Blu-Ray cases and just put PS1 and Saturn games inside, then print a high quality cover and back cover modded with the proper measurements.
There are some of those games that have not come out digitally on the latter systems and it would be cool to have them in a decent physical presentation.

What I like about the Xbox One cases is that they are all grey on the spine with white text. They all blend together so well. It's gonna look quite cool when you have a large collection of them.

I forgot to comment on Mark's review of another aftermarket controller - those are always fun!
I could feel the pain in my arms just by looking at the position of Mark's hands. That controller looks awful. Now, the most terrible thing is that it's called "Quickshot Flightgrip 2". Seriously, the first one sold well enough to justify another?
By the way, any of these aftermarket controllers with really different shapes were ever more comfortable/better than the official ones?

F-Zero GX
I never played it, but I'm impressed by how fast it looks - not every racing game gives you such a sense of speed. Too bad Nintendo abandoned the series, especially considering how they could use this series to keep a partnership with Sega.

Too bad Nintendo abandoned the series, especially considering how they could use this series to keep a partnership with Sega. I hope the series isn't completely dead. Nintendo does like to bring back series as a surprise after they have been stagnant, like New Donkey Kong Country, Kid Icarus: Uprisng, and coming soon Star Fox Zero. As for the most recent review Zoom 909, it doesn't look like a game I would like.
