Japan. It was pretty awkward since I was being careful not to say anything that would've confused her, but he picked out Scrabble anyway. I took her to a Cat Cafe and it was...dull. The date was a disaster.

Might be helpful.

Nope. Mission failed. I have to find someone else. Sorry to hear that. But there's plenty more fish in the barrel, as they say. Is that what they say? It's something to do with fish, anyway.

So, I finished a bad thing and a good thing. Sine Mora EX
Knowing that Sine Mora was coming to the Switch made me hyped, and I got it on the day it was released digitally. It's a game I overlooked in the past, but I've been hearing only good things about it since it was released. Ooooh boi! Wha-why is it so bad? And how come there's very little warning over the internet about it? Holy shit! So, those were the absolute worst bullet patterns I have seen in a non-amateur-made shmup, they're either too easy or too hard to dodge, but that doesn't mean much because you have a lifebar that is the timer; what actually kills the player are bullshit, non bullet hazards, such as hard to interpret walls, or stage hazards that barely make sense, or even just the terrain of the stage in case you hit something, always signs of great shmup stage design; I think a fair comparison here is the story mode of Resident Evil 6: you don't get killed by mooks or bosses, you get killed by random QTEs. The cherry on top is a downer story involving talking animals fighting World War II against the Empire. That makes it for worst dollar per fun rate in the shmup category. The Tower of SuccubusToday I finished the Tower of Succubus, the third game in the Succubus series, made by independent developer Libra Heart, who kindly translates his/their games to english by himself/themselves, whatever that dev group actually is. It plays as an overhead labyrinth shooting/exploration game, like Tower of Druaga. It all begins when Lucia, the titular succubus of this series, is assaulted by a high priest during her sleep, losing most of her powers. Then she needs to climb the succubi's tower in order to regain the full extent of her powers. Along the way there are upgrades, power ups, and diary pages depicting exploits of previous adventurers, often tragic, but also the source for the titillating art most of the time. In order to survive the dangers of the tower, Lucia can shoot her magic bolts or attack at melee range (initially by kicking). Other commands are an overdrive mode that costs a bunch of hearts to replenish her health and make her magic shots limitless, and the charm attack that makes male enemies unable to resist her appeal. Now, this is an easy game, because you technically are the big bad, and as expected you have high survivability, specially because charmed enemies will give Lucia some of their favors*, replenishing some of her health and hearts. The interesting thing is that, yeah, it is porn, but that's what happens when a developer enjoys actual games: even if the main draw isn't the gameplay, it works very well. But yeah, this is a very juicy adventure, might not be for everyone. And talk about juices, I'm happy that it washed away the taste of Sine Mora. *if you know what I mean

Doom (2016) I never played the original Doom games, but this game is just AWESOME! Its an adrenaline fueled journey from the moment you insert the disc, and it never stops until the credits roll. It helps because the gameplay is unequivocally satisfying, this is my favorite FPS of all time, no questions asked. Just bare in mind, this has a 30gb patch, which has 2 expansions for the decent fun multiplayer and an arcade mode for offline gameplay.
OutRun Online Arcade (PS3) Since this is delisted from PSN, i had to download it through nefarious means, but other than that, where has this been all my life? I know you can't finish arcade games, but i wanted a reason to mention this game, its basically OutRun 2006 in HD with trophies on PS3, it doesn't get any better than this

Resident EVII Basically RE1 in first person, as close as it gets to the classic design philosophy of the old RE games. Suffice to say its absolutely fantastic, i thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finished up 'I Am Setsuna' on the Switch on the weekend, and quite enjoyed it. It wears its Chrono Trigger inspiration on its sleeve with some nice callbacks, but is very much its own game, with a distinct somber tone. I'll remember my time with it well.

I finished RXN - Raijin - from yesterday night to this day's morning.
RXN - Raijin - was developed by GULTI, a group whose most famous project is either Raiden Fighters Aces or Mamorukun Curse!, the latter of which I can confirm that it's a game of high quality. Having the Mamorukun Curse! name on its predecessor roster and a sick intro and gameplay footage in the teaser trailer definitely influenced me in my hasty decision to purchase RXN at 38 dollars (ouch!), because what could go wrong?
It's one of those funny things in life... Nothing suggests that RXN isn't even enough dumpster fire material until you sit down with it, and let me explain why. Earlier this year the Switch received the latest port of Sine Mora, and as everyone except me knew by then, that game is dumpster fire material. It is the biggest display in lack of ability to design levels I have seen in shmups, akin to something from Divine Sealing even if not in the same brand of bad. Just play it in arcade mode with regular game progression and no story and you get hit very soon by several obstacles that only make sense if each level was a separate thing from each other, having a savepoint in the beginning. Add to those mechanics that aren't exactly fun and a drab story, and you probably won't go back to Sine Mora EX.
But what about RXN? Well, it contains none of those issues. Yup! Core mechanisms are great and it feels awesome to play! Story is magical mecha BS with hints at a philosophical discussion that never happens; enemy design is varied enough; soundtrack is mostly great; all the lines are voiced; and that's how this game isn't dumpster fire material. Still, it's worse. [sigh...] The only game mode in RXN is stage select. It's a shmup made out of 32 stages and slight variations of a few of those which I completed in less than 6 hours, some of those taking no damage - which means I can see the skill ceiling from here - all of that while actually getting roughly what the story is about at the exact same time I was dodging bullets and shooting enemies.
And that's the big problem. I keep joking about dumpster fires, and as a final analogy to that I say that if I try to light the dumpster with RXN it just won't catch fire. While a game like Sine Mora X is a game surrounded by too many flaws, I see RXN - Raijin - as a huge flaw surrounded by many pieces of an awesome game; and that's why a more serious rating I'd give it is a 5.5/10: all the pieces to make a great game are there, but this one isn't even mediocre.

I finished up the main campaign in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero a few days ago on the Switch. I really enjoyed it. It can't' really be called a Metroidvania exactly. The previous game, Shantae and the Pirate's curse, had moved into separate levels, but Half-Genie Hero removed the map screen as well, as the levels are relatively simple. There's still plenty of great platforming, and you'll find yourself revisiting levels multiple times as new abilities are unlocked. All in all, very fun...
...so much so that when I noticed the first DLC on sale, I grabbed it. You play through as Shantae's nemesis, the pirate Risky Boots. Her unlocked abilities match the pirate-themed ones Shantae had in the previous game, so that was a nice bonus.
I might grab the second DLC as well, which features character swapping between Shantae's friends Bolo, Sky and Rotty, and apparently levels that are more remixed than those you play through as Risky.

I live close to the studio. They are based in Santa Clarita and had been making games for a while. They made Contra 4 for the DS and also DuckTales Remastered. I think their first game was Mickey's Ultimate Challenge on the Genesis. Their latest game The Mummy Demastered looks very cool.

Final Fantasy XV - Good gheyme , amazing Ending (took me a year to get to it, but maybe just as well since the DLCs are out now...) Anyone who complains about the story really has something wrong with them.

Final Fantasy XV - Good gheyme , amazing Ending (took me a year to get to it, but maybe just as well since the DLCs are out now...) Anyone who complains about the story really has something wrong with them. Nice! I've been playing this myself as well, playing the character episodes as they fit in the story. I'll likely finish Episode Prompto tonight, which feels weirdly like Final Fantasy does Resident Evil...which I mean as nothing but a compliment. Regarding story, I will say that a friend of mine was watching me play a few chapters over the holidays. He had played it just when it came out, and really liked it, but did describe what I was playing as "This feels like a different game. A more finished, well thought out game". I guess some of the story beats I was seeing were completely absent from what he played, and there have been a lot of mechanical tweeks...for example, apparently you could only take one one hunt at a time instead of ten...which seems super inconvenient. Regarding the story, I will say that I've really come to like it...but there are some flaws. I'm glad I watched Brotherhood, Kingsglaive, played through the DLCs, etc, and I've enjoyed the story more because of it....but that, along with some plot elements that really feel like that they should have been referenced earlier makes the game feel a bit haphazard in presentation. That won't stop me from finishing the game though, or Comrades, or the additional DLC to be released in 2018, and having a blast. It reminds me a little of when I played the Phantom Pain, in that I felt the creators had more they wanted to do, but I still really enjoyed the experience.

Yeah, the best course of action nowadays seems to not be an early adopter. Waiting a few months to a year will almost assure you get a more refined experience, on top of the likelihood of a better price. Same was the case for my time with Andromeda. Btw, speaking of Andromeda, since the world/planet of FFXV is called Eos, I personally like to think of it as being the very same Eos as from MEA - that first settlement, after the passing of many thousands of years. Maybe all the settlements all eventually got isolated by the scourge or something then developed independently without much knowledge of the past... Besides, Insomnia is surrounded by desert rock... It could even very well have been the city that grew out of Podromos, with the Regalia-D passing off as some sleek descendent of the Nomad... Ramblings of a madman for sure, but as far as I can think, you (Imperial Khador) are the only one around here who might have some idea of what I'm talking about so just had to get it out there. I suppose that's what happens after playing one game then moving straight into another - start to see and make connections that aren't there. The season 2 for DLCs have the first one more or less confirmed to be about Ardyn. The ones after that are rumored to be Luna, and then Ravus presumably... Although I'm holding out hope for Aranea... Oh, Aranea... Stand by me! I haven't played any of the DLCs myself yet though, hoping they will fill a similar role post game as to what Kingsglaive did to set it up. The game's writing isn't perfect I admit, especially the way pacing and events just kick into accelerated gear after leaving the open world map... And then having all these things just happen without proper explanation... Perhaps that was by design, with DLCs and additional material intended to fill in the gaps from the outset... But that ending... just makes everything fall right into place with perfectly sweet closure. My one complaint is... Why couldn't I have the ending look/skin for Noct usable from the very beginning ??... (yes, I actually know the answer to that... )P.S. Remember to go for the plat if you aren't already - Supposedly one of the easiest for a FF ever, no where as tough as FFIX, or VII even...
