Go watch the best Vietnam war films, then you will feel how Vietnam is. Watch Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now. Apocalypse Now is actually about the African Congo from the novel Heart of Darkness. Full Metal Jacket was mostly filmed in England, Kubrick didn't like to travel in his latter years. Platoon Leader, The Siege of Firebase Gloria, and Go Tell the Spartans are movies that are "accurate" from those that were actually in country (I have spoken to many different veterans and asked them the question). Cameron in the director's commentary on the film talks about it being his Vietnam movie. The time the movie was produced had many other Vietnam movies being produced at the time, and this was his way of making one without being close to those.

I liked it, but i didn't enjoy all those panty shots of ridley at the end of the movie, quite disgusting, moreso than the alien itself xD Prometheus' gratuity was better...? Apparently spidershinobi really enjoyed it...

Hooray, a film almost everybody here has seen! We'll still discuss American Ninja for my next pick, there's no running away from it. So, as I was telling Dan E. Kool, this movie has everything: 1. Space! 2. Spaceships! 3. Sigourney Weaver in her panties! 4. A robot! 5. A space ninja! 6. It's the most horrific and messed up porn ever. The entire concept for the alien creature is just genius: it's the most well made monster I can think of, both in its design (H.R. Giger rules) and in its life cycle: the egg, the spider, the surprise chestbuster then the adult thing. It really feels like, you know, an alien organism while still being similar to some existing lifeforms that exist, like those wasps that put their eggs on spiders. So the creature is credible while being unpredictable, which is just an amazing accomplishment by the film. It may be "just a monster movie in space", but oh boy, monster movies weren't this well-made and scary at the time (and rarely were after it). I've mentioned the xenomorph's design, but don't forget the entire scenery, especially when they land on LV-426 - or even Nostromo itself. It has this "used future" aesthetic that Ridley Scott also did for Blade Runner, and I just love it: it makes the sci-fi setting look somewhat realistic, something that was lived in. Besides the designs and the direction, the characters themselves are very memorable, and Ripley is probably one of the best female leads ever. It's not only one of my favourite films (probably the top one), the alien itself is my favourite creature - it's so well-made that I see it on the same level as those mythical beasts that belong to our collective memory, like the medusa, the minotaur, dragons etc. It's the only modern creature that I can see as their equal.

I love the first Alien with a burning passion. It was truly written with intellectuals in mind, unlike the sequel, Aliens, which I found juvenile and poorly-written by comparison. I haven't seen Alien 3, but I've heard bad things about it. Alien Resurrection I saw enough of to know that it was just an attempt to milk a popular franchise. Haven't seen Prometheus or Covenant (I never watch movies these days).
I'm not sure if the AvP films should count as a part of the Alien canon (since they were both a total shitstain on the LORE of the two series), but I thought that the first AvP film was a total bore with an atrocious plot, despite the excellent special effects. I've heard Requiem is even worse, even though I haven't seen it.

Better than whatever they're doing with the film series nowadays.
