It turns out that uninstalling then reinstalling Steam fixed the problem. But I still can't enjoy the game because my ping is so atrociously high for whatever reason, and it's not like my internet is that slow. I mean, I used to play TF2 just fine back in 2011, and our internet has only improved since then, so I'm bemused. And I would like to note that I'm using a wired connection, even though our house has full wireless support. I don't think my computer has built in Wifi though. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix the problem? Is anyone else using the modem while you're trying to play? Also if you're using Windows 10 open up task manager and tab over to Performance>Ethernet and check to see if any background programs are sending/receiving before starting up Steam. Tried it, checked, and there was nothing actively consuming the bandwidth. I just don't know what to do.  But thanks for your advice. |

Update on my Steam fiasco: I tried to download an update for TF2 the other day and, not kidding here, my download speed was less than 56 kb/s. It was going so slow that I had to cancel the operation. No skin off my bones, since I never play TF2 anyway mostly because my ping is so FUCKING AWFUL. >:/
