I really like this review. This is the kind of review quality we grew up expecting from the show, informative, yet very entertaining with the inside jokes. I enjoyed watching it again.
Those long lines he was talking about in the arcades were very real. It's cool to see when other people shared similar experiences to the ones you did. I imagine Mark was one of those older college students I used to see as a kid there in those places.
About the game I would definitely call it the spiritual predecessor of modern NetherRealm's Injustice fighting games. That's how it looks and feels. Although the difference besides the licensing is that Eternal Champions wasn't any good. I imagine it is one of those games you can end up loving for nostalgic reasons. It looks easily loveable.

Yeah, Mark was in good form here. I like the game. It has nothing to do with nostalgia since I didn't own it bitd. I only got it maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Street Fighter II is the more accessible game. Eternal Champions takes a lot more practice to play well. You can tell in Mark's video that he's not great at this game (neither am I), but when you see people who know what they're doing play, it's really something else. Maybe Spirit Bomb would like it, for that hardcore quality that he prefers. That game has a lot of style and some unique characters. I always pick Larcen, the 1930s mobster.

I can agree with that, these games like Eternal Champions, Double Dragon V, Comix Zone, etc., are great as long as we love them.
Independently of how they play we can still love them, and that makes them good in our eyes, no matter whatever flaw they may have.
It's really cool to hear you got yourself a copy and end up liking it all grown up. It shows not everything is nostalgia.
I also think a lot of games are legitimately good on orginal hardware and only lose the good touch when played otherwise.

I love them, they're two of my favorite games of all time and easily my favorite fighting games of the 16-bit generation, closely followed by Ballz 3D.
I like some more 16-bit fighters, but not that many, like Killer Instinct and Primal Rage I can enjoy from time to time but they lack a lasting appeal and I grow tired of them very fast, they're good for a quick burst of fun but it never lasts as they're too clunky and don't play very well, sadly.
It wasn't really until the following 32/64-bit generation that fighting games became appealing to me in general, with games like Virtua Fighter, Cosmic Carnage, Tekken 2, Bloody Roar, Bloody Roar 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic The Fighters, Psychic Force, Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha, Street Fighter EX2 Plus, Pocket Fighter, Unholy War, Soul Blade and Dead or Alive, but even among all of them and the more excellent games that followed in the generation after that Eternal Champions is still a game I come back to and enjoy alongside them, it has stood the test of time with excellently crafted gameplay mechanics and pixelart gore as brutal as it is beautiful.

Never played it, I would like to checkout the Sega CD version sometime. It is the best version. It kinds of makes the Genesis version seem like a demo.

In case anyone doesn't know, this is our current weekly game discussion. The lack of pinning is certainly alarming, but don't let that deter you from commenting.

I'm sorry Dan, but I've been working shifts like crazy. But I will fix this and the movie thread. Or, you know, since you're supposedly a mod, why don't you fix it?

I'm a MODERATOR. Tasks like pinning threads is far below me, better suited for "mods" such as yourself. I figured you were busy. No worries, dude.

Back in the day, I had several game magazines that had all the ways to get the Cinekills, fatalities, etc. There is probably some place (gamefaqs or youtube) to find them now.
